Default what are all you people doing with your stock motors

i have a 91 hatch and i am just looking for a stock motor to put in it since i have blown up two dohc zc's. There is a junkyard by me that has like 15 d15/d16's and they want 450 for one. I am just wondering where all these motors are going out of these cars getting swapped cause i cant find a damn cheap d-series. Anyone know of one let me know thanks

call them back and tell them to sell you a core engine for a reduced price. anything that doesnt run perfect is considered a "core" engine. could be anything from a knock to the valves seals leaking a bit of oil... could even be that the idiot who owned the car had the timing way off or somethinig, so the junk yard just disregards the engine. i bet they would even GIVE you a core motor if you do all the work to get it out of there. they charge so much for a good engine because insurance companys pay a pretty penny. they usually dont sell d15 or d16 engines to "off the street" business. my yard doesnt anyways. we got about 15 d15's sitting in our core pile, and i know of 2 d16's sitting in the rain too... it hurts me to watch them go to hell.

I sold mine on HT, other motors I traded kept tossed at a yard or sold.

Try making a want to buy thread in the marketplace, someones probbly got a stocker kicking around.

Leaving it in the car . . .

If you can't find a cheap running D15 longblock, you definitely aren't looking hard enough. Make a WTB thread in the Honda-Tech marketplace, or search there for engines FS. Try Craigslist as well.

$450 isn't too bad for a well running D16 if it comes to that though. SOHC ZCs from JDM importers run about that much, plus the additional cost of freight. Remember that these guys have to make something back from the labor they spent to remove the engine, which is something that isn't factored into the price of leftover engines from swaps.
