Grinding into 5th gear
Every gear shifts beautifully except for the 5th, so I'm hoping it's not the tranny. Sometimes there will be no grinding if when I shift, I hold the clutch in untill the RPMs come all the way down, then proceed to shift. Could synchro mesh fluid be the solution to this?
Car is a 1990 Integra w/ 199k on both motor and tranny.
I remember a while back, my mechanic told me that I would need bearings soon. Could this be the cause?

I have the same problem. It's the synchro that's going out. You might want to wait until you change the clutch to change the synchro at the same time. A temporary way to mask the problem is to change the transmission fluid with synchromesh.

It's just a temporary fix, and you can get it at a GM Dealer
