CAR PAINTING EARL SHEIB HELP
well i have a 97 red gsr that needs a new paint job. i dont have much to spend and i dont have any experience doing it myself. i looked around and found earl sheib..
theres a special going on for a package 3 for about $400. im going to be painting the door jams also and probably adding the Euro Clear Supergloss (paint coat #4). the total will probably be ending up to be around $600-$700
the question im asking is if anyone had any experience with this place. do they do a good job and does the paint end up looking nice. any other options you think i should add or dont need?
im planning to paint my car pearl white or frost white (if they have it).
pics will be very helpful
thanks guys

$700 seems extraordinarily cheap for a paint job. Some questions to ask:
1) Will you tape off the grill?
2) Will you remove the front bumper?
3) Will you remove the side moldings?
4) Will you remove the windshield trim?
5) Will you remove the front door window trim and handles?
6) Will you remove the rear side glass? (This can be carefully taped back as well.)
7) Will you remove the hatch glass? (This can be carefully taped back as well.)
8) Will you remove the rear window washer?
9) Will they remove the hatch lock?
Items 3, 4, and 5 are most critical as they provide lift points for the paint.

i had my crx done there. For 600 bucks they taped off all the molding and everything. Never chipped off, but the paint itself wasn't that good looking
i had my car painted at scheib.... its a really mixed bag with them... just like with any other paint shop.. you never know whos gona work on your car and how good they are... i was lucky and my paint lasted over 3 years.. the only reason it started chipping was cause of lots of projects ive done... but im gona paint it myself soon.
thanks for the input guys
here is the package im going to be getting

i work at a body shop and theres NO POSSIBLE WAY you can get a quailty paint coat for 600. Heres wat ther gunna do there just going to tape everything off and wetsand and spray. in a year or two itll peel. A qualty paint job they remove all your **** like door handles moulding so that the paint will stick to the edge of every surface. With out doing that the paint will peel its just a matter of time and its no fun to role around in a paint job that looks like a maaco job.

It really depends on where you go, some places are good and some are bad. Look around the shop for the cars previously painted to see how well they do it. I got mines painted at Earl Schieb and I'm very satisfied with it. Make sure you ask all those questions that Dogginator put up for you and tell them exactly what you want painted.
i painted my last 3 cars myself and i paid less than 350 a piece.. i didnt take off the door handles and i just wet sanded and painted, it came out great everytime. and 4 years later my buddy owns my old del sol and it still looks great.and let me tell ya its not hard to paint a car, takes some time but its not hard..
EARL SHIBE IS CHEAP FOR A REASON ...............all the EARL SHIEB in hawaii gets teased, they all suck down here...i dont know about the mainland but i bet you will have to repaint your car in 1 yr
your better off painting it your self and renting a booth~

I got the Pro 3 package and I'm very happy with it. First of all, my car's been wrecked (93 Civic hb) so the body lines don't match up perfectly. There's a couple of dimples here and there. Rear bumper was poorly paint matched, driver's door and hood were a different color. And the car had been painted cheaply with overspray in the past. So it made sense to get a cheap paint job. If your car's never had a serious wreck and still has the factory paint, you should spend 2+ grand for a real paint job.
The quality of the paint itself is very high. Color choices are extremely limited. I requested that they mask my radiator and muffler, which they did, along with my rims. But the whole underside of the car, suspension, and brakes got oversprayed. In some places where there was chips in the paint, they didn't sand it down, they just scuffed and painted over it so you can still see it.
Before I took it down there, I removed all my lights and turn signals, or at least some of the bolts and access panels so I could do it there in the parking lot. I didn't pay them to do the door sills etc because I plan on doing it myself someday. I got my aftermarket spoon mirrors painted, and the factory lip spoiler painted, but I made them mask the side bumpers and the little cut outs in the front bumper. I also removed the long black strips that run down the roof of the car. I scuffed the whole car down myself, especially around the edges of the doors, hood, and fuel door.
I paid less than $400 with the coupon and I'm very happy with the outcome. I even had a thread about it at one point and got a lot of very positive comments. Just keep in mind, that a $2-3k+ paint job is worth the money, and you get what you pay for. I'm thinking about getting my 92 Integra painted there, but can't decide whether to keep it white, or paint it the same color as my civic.

wow your car turned out pretty nice.. did you get any extra options with the package 3, or did you just do package 3 by itself.

Paint it Rustoleum/mineral spirits style, that's what I'm doing, except I'm doing it slightly differently than listed here: http://board.moparts.org/ubbth...&vc=1
Mix Rustoleum and Odorless Mineral spirits ~60% Mineral Spirits ~40% Rustoleum. (If it makes a trickling noise like water when you stir it, it's too thin)
Wet sand prep original paint with 600grit
Lay a coat of Rustoleum, let it dry and repeat two more times.
Wet sand with 1000grit, until the surface is smooth and consistent (in terms of texture)
Lay another 3 coats
Wet sand with 1000grit again, until the surface is smooth and consistent (in terms of texture)
Lay another 3 coats
Wetsand with 1200grit again, until the surface is smooth and consistent (in terms of texture and completely covered & close to the same color)
Add more coats of paint if you feel it necessary. You can get away with using 1000grit for the final sanding to. I did.
After the final sanding, buff it out with Turtle wax (i think that's what it's called). don't get the rubbing compound, but the polishing compound. You should be able to keep buffing it over and over again, and it'll look better each time.
Here is some pictures of a gas door I painted, my camera isn't that great, you'll have to forgive me!

It takes some of your time, but realistically after EVERYTHING, you will have probably spent no more than $100. It looks great, it's extremely durable, and you will surprise the hell out of people when you tell them you painted your car yourself with a roller (my favorite part)

lol you really want a nice job for 600 or 700bucks good luck those guys are hacks, i would take it to a real body shop and pay more like 3000 and up. in the long run it will be cheaper and look better and last longer and hey the clear might actually shine unlike the civic above...sorry man this is coming from a painter him self no one at the macco or sheib can paint, and good luck
heres what i did with my teg take a look: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1802250
but keep in mind that i uses at least 2000$ in just products and that's not applying the products you want quality come to me or do your research and find a local body shop that will do a good job... this guy has a good start as far as questions<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Dogginator »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">$700 seems extraordinarily cheap for a paint job. to add some
1.will you remove the belt line molding( that's the molding on the door next to the glass..
2. will you remove doors to jamb
3. will you remove moldings and interior panels to jamb
ect.....
a good paint job starts with good body work then a great prep job (no shine to the existing paint any where on the car and a good sut and buff with in a few weeks of paint job!!!
this is abit of info but it will help with the end product and remember anyone can make a car look god in a picture so ask to see the example cars in person and ask if your car will look like that when done!!
