that is expanda foam that you buy in the spray can at the hardware store.

I'd say get the big parts out with a sharp tool.

When I use it around the house if there ends up being too much I leave it to set up them cut it with a sharp stanley blade.

You could probably use thinners after that.

The brand is called "greatstuff". It is used to seal up houses and such to stop air from coming through around your windows and such. Alot of people use it to build a air tight stereo box. It really ghetto and sucks when you want to take it out.

Looks like you have your hands full though. Good luck.

Ah "greatstuff", my winter beater is full of that ****. It keeps the water and exhaust out but it is hell to clean up.

paint your bumper trim black, it'll make it look 100% better.

for the pic of what a hatch looks like:

I painted the "bowl" black because I ran out of the correct color white:

That foam, just cut as much as you can with a hacksaw blade, knife, razor, whatever you've got. After you get it cut out, it can be "melted" with solvents.

The dry ice trick is for the sound deadening. Not worth it IMO unless you're building a race car. You don't really need any special tools, just leather gloves and a hammer and bag to crush it.
