It may not be the proper way but I'd throw it in a bucket of gasoline overnight. Let it air out for a few hours the next day. See gasoline evaporates fast so it's not like it'll stay on there too long.
Once the gas got into all the corners 'n **** you just rub it w/ a towel and it'll wash off fast as ****...
Like I said, may not be the proper way, but will work 100%

I would think that wouldn't be to good on the seals. I think just using brake cleaner on a rag or something would work good.

It won't hurt it, me and my friends have done it quite a few times. I'd make sure you get any excess off but it won't hurt anything just cleaning with it.

Yes, it's not the "proper" way and they sure as hell won't teach you that trick in your ASE Certification class or whatever other random *** acronym classes you guys take but it works ******* wonders.
Gas cleans like holy **** - only problem is it eats paint if left on too long.
Cleans like gojo cleans grease off
