I have a plug-n-play HID kit, 6000k by the way. I have no complaints about it at all.

They do it because they want the best lighting upgrade they can get, and the performance of a retrofit is far superior to that of a plug-and-play kit. If you just want "the look" and aren't concerned with actual performance, then it obviously doesn't matter.

Well i have a set of McCullough HIDs and i love the look of them...they project a ton of light onto the road. I dont know if the cost and effort of retrofitting would be worth the marginal gains...

The gains are more then marginal.

In the end if you got the time, then splice open your lights and retro, if not then just stick with pnp.
