Default LS engine in del sol

I have a '94 LS teg engine in a '95 del sol Si. I was just wondering what RPM I should be shifting at (for max hp, when racing). My instrument cluster is stock. What is the redline of the LS engine, is that what I should shift at?

There's probably a ton of info on this and I haven't searched yet, but what exactly do I need to do an LS/VTEC? I realize I need a "gsr head" but when looking on craigslist I see various packages and I'm not sure what components I need exactly. I need a GSR ECU in order to use the VTEC correct? What else?

redline is 7200 same as d series

you can you a b16 or b18c head the b16 is better though

you will need a b16/b18c oil pump and this setup has been done to death so they have kits like golden eagle now that you can buy it comes with the oil line for vtec head gasket and the dowel pins
http://www.intecracing.com < kit here under specials

also you might want to think about re building your bottom end for reliablity

I still have the original Si engine.

So I can take the b16 vtec head off my old sohc vtec Si engine and put that on the LS engine to get dohc vtec?

I didn't know that fits..

it doesnt. a del sol si motor and a civic si motor from 99-00 are completely different. your si motor is a d series.

edit: ahh you beat me to it

oh b16 is dohc only, d16 is sohc mostly. just tryn to get used to this honda lingo. I come from a background of mazda's and rotaries.

If I got a b18c or b16 head, I should still be shifting at 7200RPM right? what do you recommend I do to reinfoce my bottom end to increase the redline to whatever the b18c and b16 engines go to? I don't really want to swap in a whole new gsr engine. too expensive and time consuming.

stock redline for a b18c/b16 is 8200 with that head youre able to take it that high, but when you start building your head with better cams/springs/retainers you can take it higher if you get your ecu tuned

just do your research lsvtec has been covered millions of times so you wont have trouble looking for info

if you really want some power out of that ls you can turbo it depending on the mileage and get more power than a gsr

i personally would rather do a ls vtec then ls turbo... but then again i'd end up turboing it anyways so bottom line vtec is necessary
