Default evo to civic??

Ok so this is my first post on honda-tech so hello! Currently i have a o6 evo9 that makes 350ish on a mustang dyno on pump and prior to that i had an SRT-4 that made 400ish on pump....But currently ive decided to by a house and the car payments gotta go so i thought id return to where i started with a Honda. I had an Built N/a motor d16 crx, LS Teg, D15 hatch, 92 h22 prelude and a 99 Si. But now since i've lost my love for N/a the new Honda's gonna be boosted. But i had a few quick questions to ask(sorry ahead of time if these are Newb ?'s)

1. I have 3 platforms in mind starting from my favorite.. 99-00 si, newer body prelude or a GSR. In your guys' opinion would any of these have a more disirable powerplant to accomidate boost.

2. The 2 kits i'm mainly interested are AFI (cause i live like an hour from em :lol and peakboost. I know theres no definate answer to which has a better kit but opinions or suggestions are welcome. Only reqiurement is it must be able to retain the A/C

3. Ill have a few parts makin there way off the evo onto the new car...ie Halman MBC, Stewart Warner boost gauge and an AEM wideband. Other then those parts and fuel/fuel managment am I missin anything to get the car running safetly and strongly.

4. Last one i promse. Is 325-350 a good power goal on the stock motor or is that pusshing it to the limit this is going to be my daily driver so I obviously dont wanna blow it up.

Thanks for any help/comments/suggestions

I wouldn't do 350 on a stock motor if it's your sole means of transportation. I blew ringlands on my stock GSR motor @ 330 WHP from a GT30R.

Then again, after having a 350 AWHP EVO I probably wouldn't go back to Hondas either, lol.

1. out of the 3 you mentioned, i would get the gsr.
2. can't go wrong with either kits, but if i was you i would go with afi since they are closer.
3. you'll need hondata or a chipped ecu running neptune, crome
4. you can run in the low 300's safely depends on whos tuning it

gsr imo. si's are nice too though. both kits look really nice, i wouldnt know which one either. i would say 300 max on a stock gsr. i think the car would still feel fast because it is lighter than the evo, but no more awd
good luck with whatever you go with

I have a 99si , I love the EK coupe boxy kinda look to them personally. If you have the money get the bottom end rebuilt with eagle rods and wiseco pistons for 320+ whp.

Get Hondata s200/s300 or Neptune RTP for a stand alone.

For a turbo kit... go wit AFI. I personally know both camps and will leave it at that.

If you wanna leave the engines stock, well then, the GSR in my opinion would take a tad bit more abuse and hold a little more power.

If you keep AC, you really wont get too rowdy of a manifold, but you CAN make it happen. I know you AZ guys gotta have AC as its 2 times hot there as it is here.

Sorry you have to get rid of the toys, i am currently saving now for an 04 white evo.

Need anything else, feel free to post.

my vote is for a 4-door gsr if you can get your hands on one...since you came from having 2 4-door turbo cars. db8s and extra room FTW plus i'm probably older than a lot of folks on h-t...i find that db8s just look a little more 'grown-up' or classier than si's or hatches, lol.

i was in the same boat as you a few yrs back. i also decided to build and boost my 4-door, and free up $$$ for other things (getting my house, finishing my basement, etc), rather than spending it on a car note. it's a good move...you can go almost as fast for 1/3 of the price tag...

i drive mine every day too and i make 300whp. you can do it on a stock block...whatever you end up getting...just do a compression/leakdown test on the motor to see how healthy it is. if it's in good shape go ahead and boost it. mine was leaking oil anyhow, so i rebuilt my bottom end.

but personally i'd stack some $$$ to build the bottom end for peace of mind down the line - forged pistons and rods, you can leave the head stock. that way you can beat the hell out of it at 320ish whp and not have to worry about things if you get a bad batch of gas, etc. gives you a little more room for error. keep as close to a stock bore as possible and you should be good with the stock sleeves.

whatever you decide...do your research here, get quality parts, and a good tune and it'll last you a long time...

have you considered a newer K series motor? they have been proven to safley as a daily driver handle about 350 wheel power w/o issues. you'll pay more up front, but gain mor ein the end. if you get an rsx, then you could look for a type-s withthe 6speed and the good motor and eventually push it to like 450+ at track times.

thanks for all the replys really appreciate the input. I really like GSR's just not a fan of the 2 round headlights, if i could find one with a JDM front that's be the winner hands down. And as fas as building the bottom end it will be built just not right away probably over the winter of this year. so 300 ish with a good tune and call it good till i build the motoer and crank up the boost?
