proximity...faults and goods
I went to a shop today to check out some alarms and different sensors. I was particularly interested in the proximity sensor. The guy at the store had no idea and i had no idea what he was saying. But the guy was new to the place so i let it go. Can someone tell me how proximity sensors work and the goods and bads of the proximity. I mean, what happens when you are parked at the mall for example and ppl always walking by your car. I guess I wouldnt want it going off every time someone does that...... anyways please someone help me understand.
who cares if people walk by
the most they can do is set off the warn away
full trigger is only set off by movement in the interior if the sensor is set up right
basically there a 2 zones
inside
outside

cool to show off. I use mine to roll up the windows on people if they try to stick there hands in the car or if they are down. The unit is more sensitive at night then during the day. So you have to pick.
what you have to remember is its affected by atmosphere: the heavy or denser the air is the shallower the range and vise versa. When i do them i let the customer know that the will have to bring it in to be adjusted at least 2x or so until its "perfect"

how exactly does that work?
how can i get better front & rear coverage from my sensor without it extending too far on the sides...

It takes a lot of patience. What i usually have to do is take the car and park it away from any buildings and metal such as light poles so if you can find a great parking lot good. the best mounting option is the center most point of the vehicle. Under the center console usually works great. you have to carefully adjust the exterior and interior . thats what takes a while, most people will say to do it on a clear sunny day and to take your time and test it out with every adjustment
Pretty much what they said^^
There are more then a few of them out there, just make sure you get a good one, the one I have is a dual stage, [outside and inside], the outside zone will only trigger warn a way, the inside zone will trigger full alarming mode, the Alpine unit ignores the first 5 sec. of outside motion before it goes into warn a way, people just walking buy, if your hanging around for more then 5 sec. your up to no good, or your a mom trying to load the kids into the van parked right next to me.
I can also turn of the outside zone in heavy traffic areas, an alarm that is always going off is an alarm that is ignored.
the_badguy I use the ground out when alarming on my Alpine alarm to trigger windows up on the 530T, I was using the ground out when warn away is triggered, [soft impact and outside zone] I was always finding them up, so I changed it to ground out when alarming. you can also just use the output from the proximity sensor to trigger the alarm and the window module, a couple diodes and your there.
