Default match gear ratios to torque curve or closest possible ratio?

right now im debating a higher FD or the Mfactory custom 3,4,5 gears. the FD will bring all the shifts points down from 1-5, but the rpm drop between gears will be the same as stock. swapping the gears will lessen the drop in RPMs, but gears 1 and 2 remain stock, and shifts might cause my rpms fall above my peak power range.

because im using an F22 rod/crank with a R/S ratio around 1.58:1, my peak power will be between 4200 and 5500. so would it make more sense to have my transmission set up to fall back to that range when i shift, or will closer gears still be ideal as with the ITR, B16, etc.?

hope this makes sense.

Yes, it makes sense and you're definitely on the right track.

What you will want to do is find where your peak power is and short shift it with the close ratio box.

But in an ideal world you would also get a cam to shift the power band higher to get more tq multiplication.

I could go on and on here, but I don't want to spoil all the answers for you, the most fun part is figuring it out

Be careful posting threads like this here, this is a subject that "revs my engine" hahahhaa

technically G2D i suppose. F22b1 bottom with an H22 head(which im still looking fot btw). all of the dyno plots for F22s that i have looked either didnt list a cam upgrade, or only had mild cams, and eventually i'd like to see some stage 3 bisimoto cams in mine. so the peak power range might be higher than what i have anticipated. the transmission is a d16y8 (unmodified so far).

yes sir LSD is a must! i made a graph in MS excel, and the MFactory gears seem to make a huge difference.

welp, I can't say that's not a setup that I can't stand behind

I got nearly the same setup!

you could always run a dx final of 4.058. they're hella cheap. just scoop up a busted dx trans for free. I have 3 of them hahahah

my stock EX FD is supposed to be 4.25 (Mista Bone's info). the cheapness of the D-series stuff the best! picked up my tranny for $50 with about 50-60K on it. i bought it back when i had a CX hatch with the shittiest tranny EVER!. basically DX gears with a 3.ish FD!
