Default H22 Suspension, lets drop the myth of weight

Alright, so I am swapping an h22a4 into my 1996 civic ex. I have heard so much talk that the motor is so heavy that the understeer is rediculous. To compensate inducing oversteer is said to help. With the guys with h22 in their civic's what do you think. Is it alright or is it as bad as everyone says it is. I have searched and now I just want this answer. Also if it is as bad as everyone says it is, what have YOU used. new suspension, or sway bars etc. Thanks guy for any input!!

I'm riding on stock suspension with coilovers and the ride is not bad....all this myth is hear say...and its the people who hasn't done the swap..and the motor is just as heavy as a b series by more than 30lbs more or less as stated by people on other threads..do your swap you won't be dissapointed..

h series isnt that mch heavier...swap for swap i bet my life its under 40 lbs difference...its not that serious...1/2 of that weight could be shed by a cf hood...my h22 eg drove fine.

DID H22 SWAP IN DC, DID THE SWAP MYSELF AND WENT FROM LS AUTO TRANNY TO H22 AND HAD TO PHISICLY PICK EACH ONE UP TO MOVE IT AND THE H22 WAS LIGHTER. SO MUCH THAT IT RAISED MY CAR UP 1/2 INCH ON STOCK SPRINGS. BUT KEEP IN MIND THIS WAS A AUTO TRANNY FULL OF FLUID. ABOUT A WEEK AFTER SWAP DID NEW KYB STRUTS AND ENERGY MASTER BUSHING KIT AND KEEP STOCK SPRINGS FOR NOW AND RIDES AND HANDLES PERFECT , BUSHING KIT IS THE BEST UPGRADE YOU CAN GET FOR THE MONEY, REPLACE ALL THOSE WORN OUT BUSHINGS WITH JEARS OF WEAR ON THEM

b16's are pretty heavy too. LS's and B20's are the only b series that are light enough to tell a dynamic difference (when compared to the h22).

h2b_eg8, he was referring to the fact that it was an auto tranny, and with much more fluid than a manual holds. but, i also doubt that the h swap was lighter than the auto LS all together.

I really hate the myth that h22s change steering and the feel of the car.... H22's vs. b18's is a minimal difference of 30-50 lbs.... My brothers h22 integra drove like a BAT OUT OF HELL, and handled awsome (on tein basic)...

Correct between 30-50 lbs. Tranny difference from GSR B to a H is about 1 lb. As with any engine swap good set of shocks and springs are a good idea... coilovers are always best to allow you to get the desired ride height...

a decent setup would be some tokico or KYB AGX adjustables and some skunk2 coilovers...

just did a H22 in a ek using hasport moutns and axles and the car drives not to good its got a bad vibration like the wrong axles, but other then that the front wait isnt as bad as people say it is. i have had a 00 ek with H22 with silk road coilovers and the car drove just fine. the only issue was that at about 130+ on the freeway the car kinda feelt loose like it was hard to control. i know i know i should of not been driving that fast but i just did

And where are u getting these *facts*? I have an h22 in my dc2, can't tell a weight difference at all, car still handles great with a huge increase of power and torque, although i too have a bit of axle vibration, just learned to live with it.

What he meant is that a B18 with an automatic is lighter than a H22 with a manual bolted to it, cuase automatic trannys are heavier.

There is a thread saying the weight difference is less than half a tank of gas, therefore, you could negate it.

If that's true. Adding 85lbs to the front of a FF vehicle is a lot. Most of the weight in these vehicles is already in the front so the difference will definately be noticeable at the track. Consider a gutted car stock with stock h22, handling will be drastically changed. I have no experience with this but it's just what I think would happen.

there is a thread of someone that has actua;;y weighed a b18 gsr and h22 and found h22 to be 35 lbs heaver this was with no accessiores on ether eng, i have a dc with h22 and like i sail i had auto tranny and swapped to manual h22 and lost weight, i dont think suspession is any different for manual dc. and if it was a problem u think they would be diffrent, people shoulden claim anything unless you have done it and know , still waiting for tune and will be taking to track , ill let u know how it does, does anyone have track times for dc h22

Id like to see a comparison of a common b series vtec turbo system (intercooler, manifold, turbo, bov, wastegate & charge piping) to a bolt on h22 swap. Its probably pretty close and most of the turbos weight is in front of the motor which in theory should hurt balance more.

The only reason i say this is because more people seemed overly concerned with the weight of an h22 swap when compared to your average turbo setup. For arguments sake, both setups would have the same power since this isnt an arguement about horsepower, im simply talking about weight balance.

I read this thread to a while back. I'm having troubles finding it again thou. If we could find it maybe it would make people quit pulling numbers out of their asses like they actually did the research themselves. cough hybrideg6 cough

I have had 3 H swapped cars... I would have never done the swap a 2nd. or 3rd. time if it was a bad combo! I think the car handled just fine.

Only complaint I have about this swap (and I'm over it now) is the axle alignment.
