Default Cylinder Head Oil Starvation: Discussion

Im wondering if there is any concern for anyone with stock, or built motors about head oil starvation.

Has anyone had troubles burning up rockers, or having cam wear as a result?

Let's hear your opinions.

VTEC heads flood the rocker and spring area with oil.If your running locked rockers you could probably restrict the oil to the top a lot more.

thanks for the info.

from my understanding they do this when vtec is activated correct?
the rest of oiling is through the galleys only?

if not, then isnt it just the "sloshing" of oi that distributes it around in there?

help me figure out whats actually happening and when.

oil is pumped up to the cam bridges where it is drizzled over all the cam lobes during and not during vtec.

Remove a valve cover and have someone crank it and youll see what I mean.

The only way I see "head oil starvation" is if the head control orifice gets plugged or a bad oil pump.
If the head oil control orifice was plugged, it would probably produce enough pressure to blow out the oil filter O-ring.

Like pyroproblem said there are spray bars built into the head. The oil system that engages the vtec rockers isn't really sealed and leaks a lot of oil in the rocker area when activated.

anyone had first hand experience where more oil in their head would have saved them trouble?
