what is this wastegate fitting for?

as it says.... this fiting isnt hooked up to anything on my car, but i have a boost controler so im not sure if it is needed

PS. this isnt my wastegate....just a pic i found

If you have a manual boost controller leave the top port open, like in the picture. An electric boost controller uses the side and top ports.
