Default mini me timing with adjustable cam gear

I have a d15b2 block with a d16z6 head its is a 93 civic ex. When using an adjustable cam gear do you advance or retard the timing 4.5 degrees.

I cant get the car to start with the stock z6 gear im getting spark and fuel it looks to me as if its flooding when i pull the plugs out. Im hoping its just the timings off and thats why it wont start.

since the gear will either be one tooth advanced or retarded, you want it one tooth retarded with the adj. cam gear advanced. you should be able to get it running with the stock gear. make sure the dizzy is advanced all the way. (towards the firewall)
