Night *Roller* Shots of EK Coupe

A friend used my Canon Rebel XTi to take these for me. its not the best.
A question for the Photographers: my friend tried taking the pics in M(manual) but it didnt turn out so good. when he used A-Dep, the quality of the pics turned out to look like the above. what function do you guys normally use to take rollers?

he sounds like he just got his camera, which most likely came with the kit lens. lets just say it will be near impossible to get a good night rolling shot with that lens.

if he wants to use his camera to the full potential, it should be on M. everything else is on the camera to appeal to the general consumer market.
to shoot rollers, you need a lens thats fast enough, and a relatively slow shutter speed to give the appearance that everything is in "motion"
