clutch replacement (question)
i have a 89 civic dx 1.5 litre, original everything, i was wondering if someone had directions on how to replace the clutch, or a link, or a walkthrough ect.. thank you!!
I'm sure there's a write up here somewhere, but basically you have to:
Remove both front wheels
Drain oil from tranny
Remove both axles
Remove shift linkage from tranny
Remove speedo cable from tranny
place a floor jack under oil pan to support motor
Remove tranny mount
remove all bolts holding tranny to motor
pull tranny off engine and remove it from engine compartment
remove bolts from pressure plate
friction disc will fall out when you take off pressure plate
To do this properly, you need to remove the flywheel and have it machined, if possible, or replaced. Your new clutch will still work if you skip this step, but it may cause you problems down the line. If you don't have air tools, you will need a flywheel holder to keep the flywheel from spinning while removing bolts.
Remove pilot bearing from motor. You will need a puller for this. Replace with new one.
Remove throwout bearing from shaft on tranny. Replace with new one
Place new friction disc with new pressure plate over it onto motor.
Use the supplied allignment tool to line up the friction disc with the pilot bearing
Replace pressure plate bolts.
Put everything else back

While you're at it you might as well just pick up a 90-91 flywheel and the clutch kit for that year. You'll get some more grab thanks to the larger flywheel, and it saves you from having to get your machined.
