Yes you can I did one on my buddies Cavalier. I used a standard 30 Amp 12 volt toggle switch for about 3 bucks and some 12 gauge wire. Then run it like you run any switch.

Really helpful in keeping engine bay cool.

Im doing this too on my car causwe the fan NEVER comes on

i hard wired to an AC fan since my cooling fan never came on. i think the relay is bad...

but do what 89 crx si said and you'll be fine. just remember to turn the fan on in traffic.

You may find that your fan still wont come on anyway unless you completely bypass the coolant temp. switch on the back of your block. But I would recommend getting a new one. It's about $40 or so from Honda, and all you need to do is loosen it with a BIG socket (I forget the size) and it screws right out. You'll lose a lot of coolant, so, refill and bleed the coolant areas in the block, but it is worth it.

The way to know is to short the connector at the coolant temp. switch and see if it turns on the fan. If you stick wires or a paper clip across the two conectors and the fan goes on, its the temp. switch. If it still doesn't go on, then the fan is bad.

And hey, a fan is a good thing to upgrade anyway, and I like the idea of an overide switch so that you can turn on the fan whenever you want.

Dave

if you are going to hard wire your fan, rather than diagnose and repair the problem of why the fan is not coming on. You should run a regular 30 amp 5 pin relay. Running power straight through a switch on a circuit that draws that many amps for any extended period of time can be hazardous. some of you that do have your fans wired directly through a switch may notice the switch gets hot after being on a while, well this is why. There is a possibility that is can catch fire, but its not likley that it will. My suggestion find out why the fans aren't coming on and fix it. or if you must hard wire it, use a relay and do yourself a favor

well i think that the reason might be in the wiring harness because when i put the b16 in the other fan for the air conditioning was removed and now that i think about it i dont really ever remeber it coming on and its not really a big consern since the temp guage is always below the half way mark any way so i think ill ask my friend thats good with stereo ish and ask him about the relay he did somthing with my alarm and i was able to run 2 sirens so well see .. no to find a good price on a slim fan? any ideas??

ps thanks for the helpfull info

i got one for my turbo ls at a pick-n-pull....its off a a old volvo or mercedes its tall but slim and i got it for like 15$, and i put it on the out side of the radiator as a pusher style instead of a puller....all you have to do is switch the wires
works great!!! ohhh and i ran it to a switch!

yeah you should do it this way but you only need a 10 amp switch then cause i dought a relay draws more then 1 amp.
