Default Who here has installed manual racks in the DAs

Sorry I'm a trial user again, the last time I was on here people were just starting to do this to their Da integras and I just wanted to see how many people did this so far and what they think of the results.

you should do this right away if you dont mind the harder steering at low speeds. Me and my brother were like the first ones to do this about 4-5 years ago. He had a 4door and I have a 2door and if you ever drove a prelude si or crxsi, it feels alot like a crx si especially if you lowered the car first. Definatly gets rid of that sloppy feel those cars have at high speeds and makes it alot easier to maneuver at lower speeds, and I think its simple to swap out too.

if my rack ever goes bad in my DA i would like to do this instead of spending money on a new rack, inner and outter tie rods etc.

nice description of how it feels. i can't imagine what a quaife rack and pinion would be like on top of having a true manual rack.

i happen to find my power steering to be very responsive and quit controlled at any speed. although, the steering system in general is in good shape, and the worm gear is properly adjusted, so i dont have any slop.

My ps pump died on me and even putting in 2 new ones they kept being bad (sucks to be re-man). I gave up and ripped it out. Pump, lines, etc. Then I just bent the metal pipe for where the fluid went (and then watched the excess fluid drip out anyway) and now have a manual rack. Been like that 6 months now. Sucks at low speeds but whatever.

thats the truth. If you dont loop back the lines and build a breather it will ruin the rack. I guess from what I have read, that you have to put the breather in so the fluid in the power rack can lubricate it, if not the rack will not have proper lubrication and it will get hard to turn and then lock up. Try to find any 88-91 Civic or Crx w/o power steering and the rack will fit. The racks I guess do not have any differences compared to the Si racks in the 88-91 Crx Si or the 88-91 Civic Si, I have the Si rack and my brother had the Civic Dx rack, and they seemed the same as the Si rack in my 2door as opposed to my brothers 4door. I think 4doors have way different handling characteristics than the 2doors.
