Default How do you know it's a Type-R tranny and not A GSR LSD tranny?

I've been searching like CRAZY, and found nothing. I know if it's LSD you look through the axles holes and if you see all the way through it's LSD, but how do you know if it's a Type-R and not a GSR LSD. Lastly how do you know if it's the 4.75 final gear or the 4.40 final gear?

There is no need to be a dick (walker111)! I SAID I searched and searched! I TOTALLY agree with searching BEFORE asking, but like I said I searched for 2 days and found nothing. I just don't wanna get ripped off at the JDM engine "place". If you find somthing on this subject please pass it to me I'll read all day if I have to.

THANK YOU BlueIntegraBoy!
The shortest geared tranny avaliable is the 4.785 98+ integra Type-r Tranny right? Also I thought the JDM tranny is the only one with the 4.785? The USDM ones have it?

I wouldn't go by what the casing is... some people put different gearing in different casings and sell them as if they were what's written on the casing. Open it up and count the teeth is the safest way ... Had a friend buy what he thought was a GSR buy the case, sure enough had LS gears in it...

No the 98 spec has the normal short 1-3 gearing, but share the GSR 4-5 gears. The 96 spec has the same ratios as the USDM ITR.

Since when did GS-R's come with LSD's?

Walker111 is right, this has been covered many times. I'll help ya here, when searching make sure you check Archived content, select the ITR forum and type vague words for searching. Also, do post bodies instead of topics. Sometimes the topic name isn't exact when searching for a specific post inside of it. HTH.

Dave.

If you would search Dave, you would know that GSR's don't have LSD. However, mine did drop some acid once... it was a trip.

JDM GSRs came w/ optional LSD trannies, most likely what OP is reffering to.

jdm gsr or sir (dont remember/dont care) lsd tranny is an option. i puchased a front clip jsm gsr from password jdm because i was tired of waiting for 2 month for itr front clip. i do still have it on my civic and compare to my 98 itr. it has a little longer gear. i wont post pix for proof. but im in s.cali and more than welcome to have you look at both of them side by side. as to check for what tranny code. dont bother i wont check. come over and bring beer.

So the tranny the would get me to let's say 130mph the fastest would be the 98 and up type-r USDM or JDM and the JDM gsr would be just a little slower? If so, how much slower? Quater-mile times, Same exact engine set up but 98 and up type-r vs a jdm gsr? Thanks again.

its not much of a difference. i only notice around 700-800 rpm difference with itr and my gsr tranny. my itr is a little noiser n little higher rpm at highway with same speed with my gsr. personally if i have the money to spend to begin with. i'll rather call gearspeed and spend alot of money with better lsd, better internal, and will outperform oem tranny for little more money to pay. but, reality is buy what you can afford instead of comparing which oem is better.
