How to fix door rust?
I'm attempting my own paint job. I've studied the body panels that need replacing and I'm confident I can do a good job. I have the metal body panels, the welder, all the tools the place and helpers so I'm set.
The only thing I can't figure out is how to fix the common canadian car door rust. The bottom of the door lip is rusted and showing on the outside (from the weld to the outside panel). I was just gonna grind it all down to bare metal, bondo it, and sand it smooth but I want to do it right so it won't crack up on me. Maybe a metal mesh should be used? I dunno. I don't wanna pull the panel off and everything. Maybe weld in a new peice where needed? If anyone works at a shop or knows what to do it would be greatly appreciated. I'll be doing the same thing to an Accord aswell so lemme know.

what you should do is cut the bottom half or less of the door skin off and weld a new piece in. that would be the right way to do it. if the rust isnt going all the way thru im sure you can just grind it down put some rust pant on there , use some filler and sand it smooth. but not if theres any holes.. unless you dont care how long the paint job lasts.
