I have 193,500 on the clock and peak out around 9 - 10psi with no problems on stock internals (I have done a really good tune on it though). But, it really depends on what kind of condition your engine is in...
a. Does it burn oil?
b. Have you done a leakdown test?
c. Compression test?

I run a hf manifold with a t3 internaly gated turbo, 2.5 in exhaust, 450cc dsm injectors/resistor box, fuel pump, chipped and tuned ecu, and everything else is stock.
Correct me if I am mistaken, but I think that d15 engines hold boost better than d16 do because of a better rod/stroke ratio (although you may not get bigger hp numbers).

If it is a daily driver, you may want to run 7-8psi.
Oh yea, I have a second car just incase I blow this one up.

a. Does it burn oil? Nope, doesn't burn oil
b. Have you done a leakdown test?how exactly do you do one?
c. Compression test? can/will do it soon, have the compression tester in my garage somewhere

what it comes down to is.... I am always low on money so would it be a better choice to just be patient and save and just get maybe an ls or gsr and boost it? this is going to be a daily driver/weekend warrior so it wont be raced constantly.

Try 0-100 .

@ OP:
Do a compression and leakdown test and see what the deal is. If they're both good changing the timing belt and let a rip. Good tune and not beat on = long lasting. Don't skimp on tune or it'll fall apart fast.

LoL

Find out where it's burning oil from.

Leakdown or compression test will tell you if it's a piston ring. If not it's probably the headgasket.

EDIT:
I'd becareful if the headgasket's leaky. You heat the block up too much (hold it too high too long) ur gonna warp the head.
