inspection in ny help
if i posted this anywhere else it wouldnt get nearly as much notice as it would here
my inspection has been up, and my old mechanic told me iw ould not pass with my obd2 99 civic, with skunk2 obd2-1 stepdown harness, on a obd1 ecu with hondata. Nothign here is halfassed, its direct wire up, nothing spliced and all that garbage, and thats all i need to pass inspection. i havent tried it yet becuase he also told me if you fail once your already in the system for a fail.
anyone have any info on this?
its in new york by the way.

any help would be appreciated

I dont really see how its possible to make an obd2 car pass with a fully obd1 system. Its a hassel but I think most people go through the bullshit of going back to obd2 just for the inspection. I am unsure though, I live in GA...
It won't pass with the OBD1 ECU in there. You could put the stock injectors back, MAP sensor (if you changed it), and whatever else back in for inspection and run it on the stock ECU and stay out of boost. Or just find a shady inspection shop or one where you know somebody, and have someone with an OBD2 Civic hook their car up to the computer.

right... but what I am saying is people swap more than just the computer... just as the guy above me said.

Thank God I live in Texas.
All I have to do here is pull up..."turn on your headlights, brights, turn signals, windshield wipers...(mechanic walks to back of car)...brakes, turn signals".
And that's it...
I dunno dude...good luck though

There is a very easy way around the whole inspection thing as long as u know a mechanic that is willing to do it for u. It will work with any obd2 car u dont need to get the same exact one that u have. All u do is type in ur cars info then scan a passing OBD 2 car it is that easy. Its not a very sofisticated system at all.

So you can type in the color and year of your car? I thought when you scanned the cars registration that it automatically brings up the year and color or the car, which is why you would need to scan the same year and color of a vehicle that matches your car in order to pass. Would appreciate the help cause I will need to pass inspection real soon. Thanks

He's talking about scanning the ECU for the OBD2 readiness test. Bring both cars in, scan the registration on your car, then hook it up to the other car.
Or when you get your new registration sticker, don't attach it to your car, bring it with the other car and take the inspection sticker home with you. The only problem is you really have to know the person doing the inspection for them to let you do that.

Oh alright, yea I've been thinking about doing it different ways in order to get it to pass. I think that idea will probably be the easiest, but all my buddies have 92-95 civics, not 96-00 lol. And theres no way that my moms 2005 LX can be scanned and work right? Thanks

It actually might work, are they still considered OBD2? The DMV computer doesn't know what car is hooked up to it. I know a bunch of SRT4 guys who have had minivans scanned for them.
