b16b or b18c1
which is faster in a 1/4 mile?? my buddy is getting a great deal for either motor?? and he's planning to run tracks so he would like to know what will be best for him?

Now when you say tracks do you mean road courses? or drag strips? if its for auto-x then go b16b, if its for street and drag i would say b18c, I have a b16b and absolutely love it...but it has absolutely no low end

I have b16b in my ek and I take b18c1 all the time, in the future replace crankshaft and rods for the b18c plus ctr piston and you will have a nice allmotor setup, of course plus ctr camshaft.
he wants to race at the legal 1/4 drag tracks.. and i think he's more likely to get the b16b considering not to many ppl have that motor.. and he's getting it for about the same price as the GSR motor from some dude.. but i told him the GSR is a 1.8 DOHC V .... .2 liter differences and more torque then a CTR i believe..but i also no that the CTR has more HP by like 15hp.. so i dunno he has his mine set on the CTR..but i can see that more of you guys say he shuld go with the b18c1.
b18c1-
b16b
b18c1-
b16b
now i dont mind all you peeps who say gsr, thats fine its your opinion and you proably own one, but these morons who trash talk the b16b reallypiss me off, time to put the e-smack down.

agreed most of these judgment passers dont have a b16b and have no idea what its capable of.

lol so wait? You had a B16B, claimed it was faster...then suggested he stroke out the motor to a 1.8??? I understand you have higher compression because of the CTR pistons....but....wtf? Why dont you just get the 1.8 in the first place? Wouldnt it be easier to put CTR cams into an otherwise stock B18C1?? If you wanted to do internal work....arent just buying the pistons from a CTR to put in a B18C1 cheaper than buying a crank, and rods from a B18C1 to upstroke your B16??????
you kinda did stuff backwards on that one a little bit.

uhh no, your the one thinking backwards, do you really think the only diff between a ctr and a gsr are compression and .2liters? how about the fully balanced crank, lighter valves, ported head, moly coated rods and pistons, dual valve springs on intake and exhuast, OH how about the ctr tranny with its dual synchros in 2nd through 4rth? and the lsd lets not forget about that. how much do you think it would cost to do all that to a gsr?

fully balanced crank? moly coated rods? oh you mean the ones he wanted to replace with GSR parts? I understand the CTR comes with a stronger trans. But he asked which one would be faster in the quarter mile. Those parts are more for longjevity of the motor. Putting CTR cams/valve springs and LSD on a GSR would be cheaper (marginally) and EASIER (much) than putting a GSR crank, and rods into a B16B. See my logic?

those parts are not just for longevity, ported head, lighter valves, plus most people use itr parts to stroke a b16b, so all the stuff i mentioned stays cause a itr crank is balanced and the rods and pistons have the same coating. i think it would cost more to do it your way, lsd alond is $1000+ cams springs and retaingers arent cheap either usually 700-1000+ there too. sure you could get a gsr with lsd but still no dual synchros or ported head.

finally something we agree on
im guessing maybe people get b16b's and end up wanting more tq... dunno. or they got a good deal on the b16b, like i paid 2500 for mine.

I had a 2000 usdm b18c1 in my LS integra I/H/E, It is a really fun motor, although obviously there is better alternatives, it was awesome to say the least. That power band at 6k rpm is sickkkk. Not as fun as my h22 i had but the trade off is worth it. The handeling isnt as good with the h.
