How to attach a 98+ Comptech ITR front lip?
I have a brand new polyurethane comptech ITR front lip as well as a brand new factory OEM 98+ bumper and was wondering what would be the best way to attach the lip to the bumper. Should I bondo the lip on before painting/priming it or should I get both pieces painted separately and then attach the lip to the bumper? Should I use bondo at all? Can someone who has done this before give me your experiences? Thanks...
PNEUMATIC NAIL GUN FTW!! It should attach at factory mounting points with factory hardware. I'd paint separately if I were you.

The Bondo will crack in that application as the lip (polyurthane) and bumper (polypropylene) are different plactics with different coefficients of thermal expansion. Even the more flexible polyester bondo would crack.

It came with some double sided adhesive tape... but that seems kind of low budget. How are factory ones attached?

Even the Mugen lip uses double sided tape in the grill area. Brackets attach the bottom of that lip.

My oem lip was attacked by like 4 screws on the edges and a bunch of bolts underneath I think. The comptech comes with the double sided tape and I believe a lot of people have installed it with the tape without a problem!

Why should he paint it separately. I just got a new bumper and a lip so I was going to attach the lip and then paint the entire thing...

Would you paint the side moldings while they are on the car? Well, I guess some people would, but they quickly realize that the paint lifts where it spans the gap between the pieces. The proper way to paint the bumper and lip is to paint the seperately and then install the lip.

I agree. Paint seperatly.
I did paint my moldings with them still on the door, and yes the gap eventually broke the paint line and looked bad. Similar problem with the bumper edges and qtr panels but not that bad. first time btw

Ah yes... I suppose removing all the glass, although time consuming, would also yield a far superior job in the long run.

There's no gap between the lip and the bumper like there is between the side moldings and the car...

What you perceive as a gap and what a 0.010" thick paint film perceives as a gap differ. The paint will lift and crack at the joint if you paint over the lip while it is on the car.
