Supreme knowledge
I was wondering... how do you become so knowledgable about a car? I mean the basics aren't hard, but I mean realllly getting into it to almost changing the entire car; how do you learn all that? I'd be interested in the many ways that some of you have done this, and I'd like to know for myself.
no formal education on cars on my behalf. I'm a degreed Mechanical Engineer. I've been around cars all my life. I grew up with dad changing engines painting cars in the driveway etc. My 3 year old son is the same way. If I'm working on the car he is stealing my tools and playing with his cars.

It'll varry from person to person, I'll ask this get pops over to the GDD, not exactly tech related but not a bad thread at all
Me I just played cars, learned from trial and error, and some things are kinda simple once you break them down.

Yup Lots of Trial and error, At first it seems overwhelming but its really straight forward once you get in there and do it over and over... Ohh and LOTS of reading the net if you get stuck, The answer to ANY question is out there if you search long enough...
I'm in college right now and I work on my crx when I can. I have 2 actually, one I just use for parts and if something serious needs done I take it off my non DD to figure it out first. I was just curious, in fact I love cars, any car doesn't matter although I am a honda fanatic. I love to learn about cars, which is why I want to know so bad. I wanted to know how so much could be learned; so I myself sometimes think I'm in the wrong major. You hear people say 'do what you love' and while my major is something close to that, if I had a job working on cars that'd be it for me. But I don't think an auto mechanic would be it for me.
The only way you get good at doing something is by just that. Doing it. You can read, and study it a million times, but will never sink in completely until you actually get your hands in it.
Im an "apprentice" mech. work 4 days a week, 5th is for school, plus additional courses to learn more.
Your never done learning. once you realize this, you become that much smarter. Trust me I love cars, live for it actually. But somedays i could blow the ******* things up...
