Default Doing Lower DIN Aftermarket Radio- But Want to Keep Stock Radio Illuminated

I am putting an aftermarket radio in the lower din on a civic and I want to keep the stock radio in but I want it to light up when the parking/headlights come on

I have an extra stock harness to plug into the stock radio....can I just wire the illumination, power, and ground wires- to get it to light up

Yup. Just splice into the main harness and run both decks.

Make it easy on yourself man. Spend alittle extra money and buy a Harness and a Reverse Harness. You can find them at bestbuy for 19.99 each. Then you just connect the after market radio to both harness but instead of hooking up the speakers to the factory radio you only do it to the after market one.

you would technically want to do 4 wires
12V+ memory
12V+ switched
ground
illumination
that's if you want it to keep the clock function as well
if you just want the lights on the radio face to work, i believe you might be able to get away with just the ground and illumination wires...but i could be wrong.

you also might be able to pull the factory radio harness down to where the lower din pocket is and just tag off the radio harness there and run your wires to the stock radio above to work the lights. use that extra stock harness you have to run the lights and use an aftermarket radio interface harness to work the new radio in the new location with the stock wiring.

also if you car is an EX...with power locks...you will find that if you unplug the stock deck...you will no longer have a working domelight or keyless entry. to retain the keyless entry and domelight functions...you need to keep the smaller green plug plugged into the stock deck. if that's the case you prolly have to do the 4 wire hookup to make that work. if you have an aftermarket security system activating your power locks then you need not keep the green plug plugged into the stock deck anymore...however....to keep the domelight working properly...you would need to connect 2 wires in that small green plug together.
those 2 wires should be
light green/ red stripe
light green/ black stripe
there should be only one of each of these wires in that green plug
lemme know if this helps

if i'm not mistaken...you only have the worry about the little green plug in 96-98 EKs...i don't remember having to do anything special like that to a 99+ EK when doing stereos and stuff. And the green plug thing is only for EKs that have keyless entry...i don't believe a dx has keyless.

power
constant
ground
+ illumination
- illumination

all connected from the stock harness to the stock radio...the stock radio works but it does not illuminate when the parking lights/headlights turn on???

There is no -illumination, just illumination, [pos.(+)] red/black.

You say you have another oem radio plug, do you have a oem radio harness adapter plug?

If all you want is illumination, connect the red/black and the black, if the oem radio plug you have is an aftermarket plug, [reverse harness] it will be the orange, [illumination] and black, [ground]. 94
