Default Sludge in Intake Manifold?

so i was looking in my intake manifold yesterday and i opened the throttle plate and put my finger in there and there was a good amount of sludge built up right after the plate and im sure it went all the through the damn manifold, the car has 119,XXX miles on it and im wondering if its normal and if i should clean it out?

Yep, if your car is stock with the Stock PCV system, or aftermarket with the tube going to the intake then youll have this.

Probably not necessary in a street car, but do oil catch cans catch all this extra sludge?

that's their purpose. and you'll most likely need one when making more power than stock.

Anyone have ideas about cleaning the sludge? Will spraying brake cleaner in there be safe?

What I usually do is just spray some Throttle Body cleaner in there and carefully wipe w/e I can reach with a rag. Or you can seafoam. But the sludge is pretty much normal so don't worry too much. If you want, disconnect the hose from the valve cover to the intake and just run a breather filter

go to your local parts store and buy a can of carb cleaner. pull the throttle plate open, start spraying and wiping and continue till clean.

you mite want to do this to your IACV while you're at it anyways.

and yes, a catch can would help a bit if you're curious.
