Welcome to the site. This has been discussed many times before. Please remember to read the rules.
To answer your question, Comptech is a shorty header. DC is a race header. Comptech you keep emissions. With DC, you have to use a non-fouler for the CEL and you loose emissions.

Depends how much money you have. Theres also the SSR race header that is $1275 shipped....but theres a group buy with one spot left for $1100 shipped. Probably to much for ya but atleast you know all your options. SSR is the best quality and has the best hp gains.
I swear this guy is worse than a used car salesman. At least he hasn't bumped the SSR group buy thread today..... yet.
Unfortunately with comptech going under I'm not really sure which header I would buy. I definitely would never put a DCRH on my car because of their known leak/break issues. I've never owned a DC product and never will because almost everyone I've spoken with doesn't recommend their products.
As for the SSR header, save your $1100. No header is worth that much (or even $1275 for that matter, which is downright ludicrious), unless you are putting it on a supercharged car, or already have your intake and exhaust to achieve the maximum power potential of the header. And spoonyguy please don't reply to this thread in the next 5 minutes trying to justify why its worth the price; no one cares. If they cared, they would read the SSR group buy thread. What an amazing *deal*
If you are just adding a header to a stock car in hopes that'll go faster, spend $265 on an Injen CAI first, then spend the rest of the money as you see fit. Its one of the cheapest performance mods you can do. You'll get a much better sound through v-tec, noticable power gains, and still have plenty of money for cosmetic or other performance mods.
Edit: I misread that you already have a CAI. You could get exhaust, hondata IMG, short shifter, bushings and suspension all for the price of the SSR header. Just something to consider.

I love that you are so ignorant to the truth. Show me a header that makes better gains and has better quality for a cheaper price? Maybe your just not familiar with quality headers. Are you familiar with Hytech, SMSP, Toda, etc ? Well if you are you would know that their headers also are the same price. They are tried and proven to make the most power and be of the highest quality. Yes I do bump the thread daily since i did put it together, so I can get the one other person I need to complete the group buy...problem with that?? Deal with it. This guy asked about headers...other people allready talked about DC and comptech. So whats the problem telling him about the only other header thats on the market? Have you looked at the all motor thread and seen what headers the guys making good power are using? Maybe you should check it out before you keep running your mouth and saying how its a waste of money. If in fact SSR isnt of the highest quality and doesnt have the highest hp gains throughout the powerband, please prove me wrong. Because I would love to see it.

Will you back off the guy already. The OP asked for headers and he's just offering his preference for a header setup. It's an informative thread not a bashing thread.
So what if it's an expensive header......have you ever heard of "QUALITY". Just because something is expensive doesn't mean you should automatically rule it out just because YOU think it's a waste of money. And you really don't need an exhaust to notice gains from a race header. I have a CAI and RH and the difference is considerably higher with the stock exhaust.
So lay off the guy and let the OP evaluate the options and make HIS OWN decision as to what is best for him.

Well seeing how the first sentance the OP stated is "new to the whole car modding thing", I'm willing to assume he's not likely to buy a custom header at an exorbitant price. I think thats a fair assumption.
And last I checked this is a forum. That means I'm entitled to post my opinion, which is that the SSR header is ridiculously high priced. I'm not bashing him, I'm just tired of reading his SSR header posts everyday about it being the best thing since sliced bread. It's a damn header, thats all. Apparently this labels me as ignorant, simply because I work hard for my money and like to spend it very efficiently.
Obviously SSR does have the "highest gains", as I would hope so since its more than double the price of any alternatives. Also, those dyno charts indicate what the header will do on a car with intake/exhaust. So of course those numbers are going to be as high as possible. The OP won't see the same gains with only an AEM intake. We all know the header market on this car is very limited, so just because SSR is at the top now, doesn't mean it always will be.
OP - buy what you want. If you are going for the ultimate fastest SI on the market, the SSR header may be for you. If you are just going for a good daily driver car that has some power, I'd save my $1100.
Spoon - If the header was so great, then don't you think EIGHT people would have already paid up for it? You created the thread three weeks ago and only got 7 people to sign up. That means either (a) its overpriced or (b) its no good. I'm arguing (a) here, there are much better ways the average person can spend $1100 on their car.

Poor assumption...the last guy that just signed up is 18...new to the game..and is buying the header. I wanted him to know his options..whats wrong with that? I also believe that a large majority of people with the new civic are people that are very new to the import scene and really dont have much background with modifying them. I've been around for a while and know whats good and whats ****. That being the case, I think thats the main reason people aren't spending 1100 on the header. But like I said above...if you look in the all motor forum where there are experienced people who have been in the scene for a while. They are all using the SSR or Hytech or SMSP headers. Which all cost roughly $1300. Sure maybe someone would want to spend their money differently....no problem. And if you cant read...the name is SPOOLN.

As far as i know, there are only 4 headers out for our cars at this time. Hytech, SSR, Comptech and DC. The DCRH has been out the longest and are the cheapest, but have issues with the flexpipe breaking on a lot of ppls headers. Comptechs is a shorty header which means less gains, but you keep your cat for emissions. The SSR has several dynos to prove it puts out enough power through the whole power band to be consider one of the best, if not the best headers out right now. Hytech also has one out, but I don't know what kinds of gains it puts out.
Price Most Expensive to Cheapest
1. Hytech $1300
2. SSR $1275 ($1100 in group buy)
3. Comptech ~$520
4. DC ~$360
Also, to get the best out of any header, you should have I/E + ecu reflash. So now it really depends on how much you have to spend and what are you looking to get out of the headers.

Spoony is definitely, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the most intelligent man to ever post a message on these forums. His amazing, yet decisive, spectacular vernacular has swayed me of my ways. Buy his header, its by far the best on the market. Better hurry up though, those group buy slots are filling fast, heh.
Regardless what you decide to do, definitely DON'T buy the DC race header. It may be cheap but it will probably break/leak within the first 5,000 miles from what I've heard. Comptech is as cheap as I would go personally, or just wait until more options become available.

Good god, I have never seen more PMSing women in one place at one time. There are more fights going on in H-T right now than I have ever seen, I think I am going to buy stock in Midol.

the SSR is a great header if youre honestly looking to spend that much. Its quality and provides good gains througout the powerband. If you're looking to spend less I'd go with the comptech for sure... also a reputiable company that makes quality parts that typically yeild reasonable gains. and if you wanna spend even less then that dont bother buying a header; for that kinda price you're better off leaving the OE peice on as a cheaper unit will ultimatley fail.

Just an aside: You can get mild steel versions of the SMSP and Bisimoto headers for far less than $1200--at least for other cars.
Part of the reason that this header is so much is because its not available in a mild steel version. I think having a mild steel coated version available would be a good idea--say maybe $700-$800--alot more people would be willing to part with $800 instead of $1100-1200.
Its clearly a great header, but I do think its a bit excessive for someone who is only planning a few mods on their car or someone brand new to cars or Hondas. You can get a more conventional header and still have money left over for suspension or whatever you want.
I believe the mild steel SMSP for d-series is around $500-$600 and the quality is just as good if not better than the SSR. Different motor of course--but $1200 is a LOT of money!!!

Oh really? I've had my DC on for about 7K miles now and haven't had a single issue with it. I recently had it looked at and there are no signs of abnormal wear or cracking. And trust me i've been beating the **** out of it just to make sure it will hold up.
Next time be a little more careful about the comments you post up and make sure you can back them up. There's another guy on here that has had his RH on almost twice as long as mine with no issues whatsoever.

Wow. DCRH got such bad rap. I had mine for over 35,000km's, daily driven for over a year, no problems. I had the cheap mild steel one too.
Never leaked, broke, notta. I had over 125 passes at the track on that thing, and it was still in very good shape when I sold it. Can't say enough about it for the money. I know lots of guys that have this header on their dc5, and only 2 have had troubles. 1 with stainless, and 1 with mild.
For me it's either dcrh or ssr, I've had both, and both are worth the money.
Good luck.

thnx for all ur opinions..cuz i definetly wasnt aware of some of the issues w/ DCRH..but im jus gonna wait until more options are available and move on to something else...probably ecu reflash..
