Default sohc, stock sleeves, forged or vitaras?

hey whats up guys i am just in the middle of researching up on what kind of set-up i want to build this summer. i have a d16z6 block that im going to use. i am debating between vitaras, or forged pistons. i would like to be over 300whp. i know it is possible with vitaras and i have searched through the sohc-t threads, but in your guys' opinion, should i fork out the extra cash and go with forged for piece of mind? also, i read somewhere that running forged pistons on a stock sleeve block is not safe because they expand under heat and can cause the sleeves to crack. now i have seen many set-ups that run the stock sleeves with forged pistons and have no problems, but i would just like to see what others have to say.
help is appreciated
thanks

This has been covered
Vitaras will be fine for 300whp and stock sleeves, If u do spend the money on sleeves then Id get forged pistions, but if youre doing a budget build then vitaras+stock sleeves FTW.

END thread.

i know its been covered, but what i really need to know is is it safe to run forged pistons with stock sleeves, or can they cause the sleeves to crack? i want this thing to be as reliable as possible, so based on experience, what would you guys do? vitaras or forged. thanks for the help and if anyone has a link answering these same questions please post it.

vitaras all day long.

i would never spend the money on forged pistons on a d-series motor ever. im 100% confident that you will never exceed teh limits of the vitaras, they are cheap, strong as hell, and they do the job...im partial to them, but look at my numbers and youll see why. fyi my motor only had 3 mods...arp headstuds, vitaras, eagle rods....400+whp.

Vitaras seem to be the way to go....people have made good power on them and they're cheap....perfect for a budget build

damn man 400whp on that set-up is crazy
i really dont care to have over 300 due to traction issues anyway
i appreciate the input, it is very helpful, but does anyone know, is it dangerous to run forged pistons in stock sleeves?
thanks

Absolutely fine. Many people run forged internals in stock sleeves with no issues at all.

I've heard it might be a different story with some h22 blocks because of the sleeves or something. But there are a ton of people running forgies in stock sleeves without any problems.

o yea fore sure. either tuner toyz or eagles. if you guys dont mind, i would love some input on the rest of my future setup. as of right now all i have is a bare d16z6 block with a crank. needs to bearings, fresh hone, water and oil pumps, etc. the car is a 93 cx hatch. i plan on putting the block together with some vitaras, forged rods, oem bearings, oem water and oil pumps, and possibly a block guard (still havent decided). then some aebs headstuds, stock size head gasket, z6 head. i dont know much about what cam for this, or valvetrain, intake mani, etc. for the turbo kit, i still am unsure as well, but i do have most of the pieces in mind
i wouldnt mind suggestions from you guys that have some experience
please dont tell me to go search in the sohc-t threads because i have been for a while now. I would just like direct information for my set-up
thanks

vitaras only come in 75mm and 76mm 76 is too big for stock sleeve atleast i think so.. and sometimes the hone will be a lil too big for the stock vitaras thats why i put srp pistons in mine 75.5 on stock sleeves FTW

as for the cam get the zex 59300 cam best mod you will ever buy.. you dont need valve springs and retainers if u keep it at the stock rev limit.

for 300whp budget get a t3/t4 50 trim
for 300whp baller get a gt28

for 400whp budget get a t3/t4 57trim
for baller 400+whp get a gt3076R .63AR

hope this helps

oh it definitely helps, thank you. i want something with quick spool as it will be a daily driven street car, but i dont want boost to fall of in the higher rpm range. i also heard that is a great cam, but i didnt know i could use stock valvetrain with it. good to know anyone else with some input?

dont forget about intake manifold...and also an lsd..that was huge in helping me with traction on the street...even with 400hp its controllable on the street...it behaves the same as a 300whp car just with a strong 3rd, 4th gear. but yea you can run forged stock bore pistons no prob, and those turbo choices above are exactly what i would recomend as well gl

with a t3/t4 50 trim, what kind of spool times can i expect? also, i have a z6 intake mani, but i have been looking around. i have heard that for d-series, the z6 actually makes the same if not more power then the aftermarket brands. is that true?
if not, i will be looking into the edelbrock, and skunk 2 manifolds

i dont know for sure but 50 trim will spool its ***** off.. the 57trim on my d would have 24psi by 5100rpm start spooling at 4000 rpm

somone else with 50 trim first hand experience chime in on spool

A GT28RS wouldn't even do 10 psi at 2000 RPM's. Who cares about boost THAT low anyways, you would only ever hit 2000 RPM's in first gear.

I have a 50trim 48ar. my tach is messed up but it starts spoolin low, about 32-3400rpms.
