Hi all,
I don't have an ITR but i have a 5-lug swap on my EK hatch. Everything is fine and dandy it brakes fine and doesn't squeak, but when i reverse at low speeds it makes this awful humming noise that sounds like a whale ready to mate.

The sound is coming from the rear brakes and I'm sure thats where the noise is coming from because if you apply any pressure to the brake pedal the noise gets even louder but it only comes from the rear it does not make this noise going forward only in reverse i have no idea what it could be please help me.

your rear caliper is more than likely sticking, either from a bad caliper or a frozen ebrake cable.

touch the wheel after a decent drive. see how hot it gets compared to the others...

i'll do it tomorrow morning on the drive to school thanks for the suggestion any other ideas? i'm just baffled as why it only happens in reverse.

not sure, but same thing happened on my old civic ex sedan. then it got so bad when i was driving, the car would start vibrating like crazy...

 

do you daily drive your car? i have the same problem and i think it is because i don't drive my car everyday. i notice that the whining sound in reverse goes away when i drive my car more.

i am guessing it is what the other guy said about the ebrake cable being frozen however i do not know what that is.

if i drive it for a while it usually goes away once the car is warmed up. i still wish i could eliminate the noise completely.

 

Jack the car up in the rear... Try to spin each rear wheel. The one that doesn't spin as freely, is the one causing your problem.

Same thing happened to me, my rear driver side caliper is pretty frozen... Makes the car quite unenjoyable to drive lately.

 

could be rear wheel bearing (easy to do but expensive)
could be e brake cable too tight (try loosening first)
or could be pad sticking (remove and sand a little then re install)

 

i had a similar problem when i installed a AEM big brake/caliper kit on my previous gsr... the posts on the calipers were rubbing against the rotors... check for that, maybe?
