Default ITR - States to Canada

Who here has brought over their Type R from the states?

What fees did you have to pay? Did you run into any problems?
All you need to get at the licenses bureau would be the registration signed over and a transit, and inspect it in Quebec then plate it, I'm aware that's theirs duty fees, I'd have to pay provincial taxes, and do I also pay a tax wherever it is that I buy it? or I just pay the tax in Quebec? Thanks!

Also is it true the car can only be 3 years old for it to come into Canada?

Reason for asking, is that I'm having an extremely hard time finding a Type R in Quebec/Ontario, looking around in NJ NY, and theirs a few, but bringing it over might be a problem, anyone that can shine some light on this problem will more than appreciated

Edit: if you know anyone selling an ITR somewhat near by, post the link

Every person i talked to says something different. Just talked to a friend last night who is importing a skyline from canada here. Said something about paying border fees. All and all it would cost him 2100 to get it from canada to sc.

Is your budget 11-13gs USD, or CDN?

You can import any car deemed fit by canadian regulations, doesnt matter how old it is.

Finding an ITR in the United States, its easier to find someone who has the ownership in hand and doesn't have to wait to pay off the bank (which youd probably end up doing for them..) and waiting 2-3 days for the title.. depending on the bank of course..

The signed over ownership will have to be sent to customs and sit there for a period of 72 hours for them to verify the car is legit, and purchased lawfully, etc. You do not pay any taxes in that state, you just get a temporary trip permit and bring her home!

Are you planning on driving it over, or shipping it over with a broker? (that would cost you in the region of $1200 most likely).

In the case of you driving it over to border, after the 3 days you will present customs your bill of sale on the vehicle purchase price and pay 6.1% duty on it, along with your GST, along with your RIV fees of $300+ CDN. They provide you with some paperwork to fill out aswell..

You then have to make the vehicle canada 'fit'.. which means you will need Daytime running lights, and airbag stickers in french/english.

Its not a hard task, but a definetly complex one, ESP travelling all the way down to the USA to look at cars.

Whatever car you see for sale in America, add on 30%, it will give you a rough idea of how much it will cost you for everything.

$13,000USD
+ 11-14% currency exchange into CDN.
+6.1 Duty
8+GST + 6+PST.. = roughly $17,000.. factor in additional costs, airfare, food, etc etc.. 18-19,000$ EASILY.. and $13,000USD won't buy you ****.

My suggestion, wait it out..

Have fun

ITRDC2R inspecting it isn't really a problem, my dad can get me by that. I just wanted to make sure the car doesn't have to be 3 years old.

Cause when my sister brought in a Prelude Type SH from the states, she didn't run into any problems, but at the time, the car was 3 years old

there is no 3 year rule , aslong as it passes canadian safety standards , crash ratings, etc.. which the acura integra does.. you can import it no problem. People are importing all kinds of cars from the USA.. NSXs, M3s, Supras, etc etc.

I have a friend who would like to sell his ITR, but is too chicken to advertise it. It has low mileage and is very well maintained.

Call me at the shop tomorrow and I will hook you up with his number.
