Driver side axle is a PITA on 3rd gen Integras. If you're working on jackstands only, you have to get underneath the car with a big screwdriver and hammer and beat on the inner CV joint until it pops off of the intermediate shaft.

if you would have read the OP says he is pulling his motor i.e. removing the engine, not pulling ON the motor

never heard of that, but sounds like a tool I might be interested in picking up. Got a link to one of those or a pic?

i can't seem to find a picture... it's shaped like a "C" though, and i bought it at advance autoparts. i'm pretty sure you can get it at any autoparts store though. it cost me $16 and makes pulling halfshafts take about 15 seconds..

here is a link for it..
you can get it cheaper at the parts store though. works very well. in some cars it is not possible to get pry bars in there to pop the half shaft loose. this solves that problem.

pry bar will not work when pulling the driver side axle off the intermediate shaft on a 3rd gen Integra. Because the dumb design where the driver side inner CV joint is female, instead of male like the passenger side, there is nothing to pry against.

Awesome, I've never seen a piece like that before. I guess I'll look for one. Did you buy that piece separately or did you find one that came with a slide hammer?
I always hate having to use my big screwdriver and hammer because it seems like my oil pan gets in the way, so I have to angle the screwdriver way down, which makes the angle really bad for trying to get it off. I think I banged on it for 15-20 minutes the other week when I had to change out my driver side axle.

hmm actually now that I look at it again, the middle opening on that piece would have to be wide enough to fit around the female part of inner CV joint (it kinda sticks out from the main joint cup where the axle tripod bearings fit in).

well, the opening has got to be almost 2 inches.. not sure though, it's too damn cold outside to go look.
i bought the piece seperately btw.. cost me $16 at advance autoparts. i believe i could have gotten it at autozone also.

I looked on the Advance website and couldn't even find a slide hammer, much less that other piece. I guess I will have to print out a picture of it and take it to the store.
they rent out tools, i rented the slide hammer from that because on the phone they claimed to have that piece in the slide hammer kit.. but it didn't, so they pulled out their little book o' stuff and found that piece and ordered it for me.
