broken axle how long will last
I have a clicking noise in my car everytime i let off the gas ( going straight and when turning). Ive narrowed the problem down to cv joints and axles. I have two questions, 1. is there any other thing it could possibly be? 2. I drive about 40 miles a day, and i cant go about to repacing it for about a week, how long can i drive untill my car is unmoble with out a replacement?
if it makes you feel any better i have driven on broken axles (clicking) for a while actually, Im not sure exactly how long they will last before they break all the way I need to replace myn in both my CRXs just have not gotton to it yet. Hopefully they will be ok for a while though K.O.W.
What you're asking is basically the same as asking "How long will I live?" - no one knows. It's possible you could drive for six months on clicking axles or they could break when you're backing out of your driveway today. I will say this - when I was in college I drove around for three months with clicking axles. Including a 90 minute highway trip home......

My right axle was clicking on my EF when I got it 2 and a half years ago and it is still working and clicking a bit while turning right.
I have put about 15 000kms on the car since and have drag raced it a few times. Mine wasn't that bad so it lasted a while. I'm changing it in 2 weeks because I'm swapping clutches and adding my turbo kit.
It sounds like yours is far worse so I wouldn't wait too long before you get it changed!

just be careful with it and change it when you can. Ive never seen an axle actually break unless someone was being hard on their car....even with ripped boots and lots of noise.

it can vary, depending on where it is broken and how bad. I had a tear in the boot, well it pretty much was gone and of course dirt got up in there and destroyed it. It was fine for 2 weeks but it got really bad all of a sudden and had to replace it right away. It pretty much fell out right after I started taking out the axle.
i drove for about 3 months on clicking axles, nothing bad happened.. and i wasn't exactly easy on my car. then i made the mistake of spending $$$ for Honda ones.. when i could have gotten auto zone axles for like $70 a piece with lifetime warranty.
