spring compressor YA8845

alot of sources are telling me to use this YA8845 valve spring compressor for my projet. But im having a hard time finding it.

If you know of where I could get this tool for cheap or even if you know where I could get a valve spring compressor that does the job please post a link or pic

looks like the snapon one to me. call snapon and find your local dealer so you can support a quality product. i actually talked to my snapon guy for about an hour and he told me about all the machine shops near by and which places not to go to.
My uncle compressed the springs by hand on his head but then again he had around 150,000 miles on it. I also heard of putting a socket on the retainer and whacking it with a hammer and the keepers should fly off.

i just bought one that looks like that on ebay. i paid $77 shipped for it. look on there for valve spring tool. I used a real snap-on one last time and this looks just the same.
mine looks exactly like that, but its not snapon. i got it years ago from some website i forget which, but it works good.
you can just search valve spring compressor and browse websites that have pictures of the identical item.

That tool is a pain to use with the cylinder head loose and on the bench. I have the same one and never use it. Get the c-clamp style it makes removing valvetrain a breeze.

i have the one pictured at the top of the thread and its true you cant use it loose on a bench worth a ****. maybe you should secure the head down. any idiot fan figure that out. also we can install springs ON the car with the head on. it works, the only thing i would change is the fact it doesnt have a longer handle for better leverage.

But you can do it by yourself. I have the snap on one and it is not a one man job with it. The tool pictured in your post will be one of my next purchases.

thats what air tools are for.

I have to agree with you on the C clamp style compressor, it really does get the job done quick with the head off. Lets say about 2-3mins to get all the keepers off. And don't use the hammer with socket to take off the keepers, it's recommened for stubborn keepers that cannot be removed with the spring compressors. I have to say though, the snap on or look alikes does have its advantage of being able to change out springs/retainers without taking the head off.

The one I use is actually a special service tool for volvo's. I tried it and found it was the best thing I had used yet. Its made in france from forged aluminum and has different adapters you can change out to fit different sized retainers. I made one for b and k-series. I paid $170 for it though

have you tried putting the keepers back in with the c-clamp style compressor in a b-series VTEC head?? PITMFA if you ask me.
I like the compressor in the 1st post. you can get deep into the head and works perfectly on the car. just make sure the valve doesn't drop.
a lil compressed air should help with that.

I've got that exact set from snap-on, only used it on my toyota v6 heads though. I had to bolt the head to the bench, otherwise you cant get good leverage on it.

I use it all the time, it depends on which tool you use and how you do it. I put my finger over the keepers while compressing the spring and they go right into place.

Ive used the first one a few times, just needs a longer lever for more leverage. Its made by Schley Products, same company for those of you familiar with the trailing arm bushing tool.

You just have to get a large clamp, and clamp the head to the table.

Just put a little white grease on the keeper, stays exactly where you put it.
