Default Spring weight

Not exactly scientific but it works.

If anyone is curious about Comptech springs weight.

Comptechs. Edit

Stock wheel weight.

Seems a little heavy for a stock wheel. The tire and inflation pressure probably add weight which is why it's soo high. I seriously doubt the wheel by itself weighs THAT much.

Or maybe it does....who knows!

Obviously RICO_ you can see the tire on the wheel in the pic. The tire probably adds about 21-23lbs to the weight of the wheel. If I remember correctly the wheels weigh like 23lbs.

Comptechs added about 1 lb each corner.

Whats your point?

And yea any wheel with a tire on it is going to weigh quite a bit... the oe si wheels really arent that heavy.

because its the same concept as getting wheels lighter ... instead of adding heavier wheels... i know 4lbs isn't much to bitch about... but in general the concept is to go lighter/faster with aftermarket parts.. i think that's his point

Lightweight wheels provide less rotational mass which allows the engine to gain RPM easier. Springs have no effect on rotational mass and noting that they are 1 lb heavier than stock is POINTLESS.

Maybe carbon fiber springs would help you achive that lighter/faster concept ?

Would you guys rather have more or less weight? For me I'd rather have less weight thats all. Just showing weight of the springs and wheels with tires thats all. No appreciation. lol

I'm not unappreciative, the weight of the wheel/tire combo is useful information. But the fact that the spring weighs one extra pound is really irrelevant IMO... thats like saying "oh i didn't take a **** before that last race so my car was heavier than it usually is"... 4lbs is not going to make a damn bit of difference in any scenario. not to mention it could be the scale or placement of the spring that gave you different readings.

for taking the time to weigh everything

These springs ARE BADARSE if I misrepresented them in any way. The 1 lb is negligent on springs I agree. The thumbsdown was for anything added to weight. Im trying to loose as much lbs as possible on my car. Including weight of springs. Comptechs FTW in terms of quality and engineering.

The spring 95% of the time is going to be heavier if it has a higher spring rate and is made of the same material--steel. For the spring to have a higher rate, the coils have to be thicker. If you look at a Truechoice catalog for Eibach ERS springs--you can get the ERS springs in any length and rate you want--of the springs that are the same length the ones with the higher spring rates are always heavier simply because more material is being used to create a stiffer spring.

What are the stock si rims, around 22-24 lbs? that is pretty heavy for a 17 x 7 or whatever the width is. So if you get the right rims you stand to lose a good amount of rotating weight--the most effective weight to lose on a car.
