another swap question thread
Ok the car is 93 CX - B16a swap. I have everything hooked up (wires, axels, ect...) and it wont start. It turns and turns but nothing so far. Ive read a ton of timing threads on here and other honda swap forums and Im not sure what it could be. I believe the firing order is correct on my motor. When we start it and "smell" the exhaust, it smells like fuel and not regular exhaust, which Im being told means fuel is getting to the motor but it may not be firing right. The plugs and wires are new and it will spark but not completely turn over.
So with that all said, timing is the cause of my problems from what I can guess.
Now this is a JDM motor I got from a local importer and they do compression tests and other tests so the motor should be fine. But it came with alot of "goodies" which include TODA cams and adjustable cam gears. Could the after market cams and gears be completely off timing causing it not to fire?
Thanks for any help.

Funny I just noticed that the company I got the motor from has ads on here. The company is JHOT, here in my home town.

There is spark from the plugs I did that. I was trying to locate the pin to check for codes but for some reason I cant find it. There is a green rubber piece w/ 2 plugs in there, I just read on another thread that one of those could be the plug Im looking for. Ill check in the morning but Im pretty sure that both plug are grey in color.
Ill check it again tomorrow (currently dark and raining) Thanks.
If the codes check out ok then I suppose it would have to be the timing. I checked for a white line/dot on the crank pully but I didnt see one. I dont if the previous owner did something to it.

I thought you said that you bought it from an importer and they did a compression check? If they did a compression check then the timing is fine and something is wrong with your install. If you could make a video it would better assest the situation.
Yah thats right, but I changed the timing belt and water pump before I did the install. Im thinking I may have not put the belt back on right or something else.
I didnt realize I didnt put that info in at the top - sorry, helpful info to know.
Other than that it is possible that I could have done something wrong on the install. This is my 1st swap and even though Ive had some ppl helping out, there is always room for human error.

Well there you go you should redo the belt. If you dont have a marking on the crank pully then stick a long extention or screwdriver down cylinder one and rotate til it hits the highest part. When it does thats TDC for the block. The head is off the cams.
I did that when I put the new belt on the 1st time. I did plan on redoing the belt anyways, thats why Ive been doing all this research on timing for everything. In retrospec (spl?) Im pretty sure Im must have had something in the wrong place when I put the belt on.
Question about the distributor : What could be accomplished by moving it foward or back? Could that alone keep it out of timing?

maybe I put the screwdriver in the wrong one. Ill redo it and if I remeber correctly there are numbers engraved (or whatever) with a little arrow labeling the cylinders. So Ill just dble check everything as I do it.
