Default Please Help Diagnose my Clutch Issue

Last summer I replaced my clutch with a Exedy organic stage 1 replacement. Unfortunately, since my GSR can't see the street, there is no way to break in the clutch. Well needless to say it grabbed with no problems at the track, but it was making a weird sound. Kinda like the sound when you put on a new timing belt and its a little tight. When you engage the clutch you hear a noise. Like friction material noise. To me I thought I overheated the clutch and perhaps glazed the surface material. But if I did this than it would slip. So I have the tranny out anyways and I pulled out the clutch. Does anything look out of the ordinary here? The clutch has about 300 miles on it.

There is no surface rust at all and the flywheel is good and straight. Both the PP and Flywheel have these spots on them that carb cleaner will not take off. There are no grooves, etc either. There is a gold haze though on the both pieces as if it was glazed or somthing...

Looks like it was cause by clutch chatter. Do you feel the car shutter a little when you engage the clutch? Do a google search for "clutch chatter" and you will find more info on this problem, and about 50 different reason why it can happen.

while you have it all out, I would resurface the flywheel, or buy a new light weight one, and buy a new clutch kit. Hopefully that will take care of it.

Not exactly sure what you mean as far as the noise, but it looks like there is a small amount of rust on both the PP and FW. Are those the spots your talking about?

I would not worry about the spots, but you need to explain the sound better I think.

Since you are saying that there is sound when you engage the clutch (depress the pedal), take a look at the throw out bearing.

hi there im new here but i know your problem %100 pos.
the guy's right its your release bearing. or "throw out bearing" its a bearing when you use your clutch pedal you are applying force to the clutch fork and this engages the release bearing towards the cluth pressure plate. the bearing has to rotate with the engine speed.. and if it has dirt or no grease or the bearings are shattered inside this release bearing, you will hear a crunching nasty noise. sometimes its really quiet but itll gradually become much louder. Release bearings also make noise even if you have your pedal completely untouched.

I urge you to only buy "Clutch Kits" as this kit provides you with a clutch, pressure plate, release bearing and sometimes a spigot bearing. Alwyas check your spigot bearings everytime you replace a clutch. And everytime you do replace a clutch, machine your fly wheel and change your clutch fluid.

This is not a throw out bearing issue. I did buy a kit and its brand new. The noise only happens for 1 second as the clutch disc is beginning to grab on to the flywheel. The noise kinda sounds like a 747 turbine turning off. If it was the throw out bearing it would make noise as you are depressing the clutch. This is not the case. The noise is as the pedal is coming up and as I am feathering the clutch to move the car.

Sounds like the clutch breaking in.. but after 300 miles.. it should be broken in by now..

Hope you fix it immediately. I use GM clutch kit here, I need it in fixings. You may want to have one, it really helps!
