Default sedan automatic tranny parking problem in cold

sorry about the crappy title... couldn't think of anything decent to call it...

well my friend has a 1990 (might be wrong year) sedan with an automatic tranny and she was telling me that when its cold out and she doesn't drive the car far enough for it to warm up that when she puts it in park it doesn't let her take her key out right away, she seas that it takes a little time for the park light to show up before she can take the key out.

anything i can try to do to help her?
