Has anyone here sucessfully swapped in place the passenger seat into the drivers seat?
My driver's seat is getting worn out and I have a spare passenger seat.

Thanks

I just did this about two weeks ago but I wasnt sure if I should post or not. Ive read about doing this in the past but wasnt sure how people went about it.
I purchased an excellent conditon passenger seat from a pick n pull for about 30$ to do this project. I dont konw your level of comfort doing stuff but I have re covered seats before so I kind of know how it works.

What I did was, I physically removed the material from the passenger seat and transfered the foam and the material to the drivers seat. It is not a 100% perfect fit, but id say 99.5%. The only part that isnt perfect is at the bottom of the seat where the rings hold it together. YOu will need some pretty good cutters to cut the "hog rings" at the bottom of the seat back. From there, you basically start to carefully turn it inside out while pushing in on the foam. On the back of the seat there are springs clipped to the material (to hold it back in place) that you will have to remove. You can re-use them to re-install the new seatcover but I prefer a little trick I learned which is to use zip ties. MUCH EASIER to deal with. The headrest clip at the top has one screw hidden under the press in release to raise or lower the headrest. YOu have to remove that clip to get to it..it just pops out with a flat screwdriver. There are clips (inside) the seat that you just have to squeeze to remove once you have the material up that high and it just slides out. Just reverse the process to put the new cover back on.

As I said, Instead of using the normal "hog rings" i use zip ties which hold up just as strong and instead of having to clamp these little things where you have almost no room to work, you can just loop them and pull them tight and cut off the end.

I'll get pics and post em but hopefully that helps. Mines a hatch but I'd bet a CRX would be the same.

ok, so this is the foam (terrible as you can see)
where all the square holes are, thats where the spring clips are to remove. Probably similar or the same for a crx..not sure

bare seat back. The drivers seat is kind of a mirror of that and thats why the foam doesnt fit perfectly but with no modification it works great. If you want better you could cut out a little foam but why mess with it

this is the headrest clip..

and this is my new and improved driver seat with perfect foam and no huge tear. My old seat had a HUGE tear..just look at the foam in the first pic

hope that helps someone. Best 30$ improvement I've ever made.

Back when I first bought my hatch I was super stoked because the seats were mint. Car was a one owner car owned by a 5 foot tall maybe 100lb girl so they were perfect. THen the car was jacked and of course the seats were probably the first thing to go. I could never find good conditon seats for a reasonable price so I just bought the first set I could find locally which had a huge tear. I drove aroudn with a t shirt seat cover for over a year until it hit me to try this. I'm much happier now and good condition passenger seats are abundant.

AntiRice How did you get the top portion of the seat off. I'm doing something similar. I'm replacing/sewing new fabric on the ripped up seat. I was trying to take apart the top portion and wasn't really sure how you do it. I started unhooking the springs in the seat, but thats as far as I went. How do pop/remove that plastic headrest peice.

if you look at the picture with just the metal frame of the seat showing, in the center you can see the thing wtih the four holes..then you see the headrest clip in the picture below that once you have the material up that high, from the back of the seat you should just be able to pinch the plastic and push up (after removal of the one screw) and that is the only thing holding it from comming off. PM me if thats not clear and I can take another picture.
