Default CEL - ECU swap needed?

What's up Honda-Tech, I finally purchased my first honda last night. It is a 93 VX Hatch with a b20 (non-vtec), GSR tranny, and some other fun stuff. The only problem is it is giving a CEL. The previous owner said that it is because it has been swapped to a non-vtec motor and the VX ecu will pull codes until a non-vtec ecu is swapped. I tried searching but couldn't find a definitive answer for my question, which is - Will the P75 ECU (which I believe is the LS B18 ECU) plug directly into the wiring harness of a VX hatch or are there any problems with the wires? I want to get this car on the road this week so I can be sippin' gas in class, ya feel me? Ha Ha. Thank you and sorry if this has been answered and I missed it. I'll post up some pics of this thing, it is pretty sweet.

A P75 ECU will plug right in and work, provided the 5wire to 4wire o2 sensor conversion has been done, but the P75 fuel maps are a little bit lean for the B20.

Ok, I just need to get one to pass the smog test so no CELs are on. How difficult is the 5 to 4 wire O2 sensor conversion if it hasn't been done. I should probably search on that one. Thanks for the reply though.

Instead of basing stuff on "what the previous owner told me" get it checked at autozone or advance auto or pep boys or any of those places (free). If it's giving you VTEC lights than yeah, as soon as u swap in the LS ECU you should be fine.

Or swap the LS ECU in and see if you still get the CEL's.

you cant smog a b20 anyways. just use the p75 ecu, re wire the o2 for 4wire, and then get a fuel pressure regulator and turn the fuel up so it doesnt run lean

I hope you know it is the seller's responsibility to smog the car before sale. You just bought a car with a light truck engine that will never legally pass a smog check or the state ref inspection.

Uh oh, This isn't good. Will the smog place notice? **** dude, I think i just fucked up big time. I wonder if I should try to drop a B18 in or something. Can the LS motor be had for a reasonable price? Man I am super pissed off now. Shame on me.

If you have the seller's information, you should be able to take him to small claims court and recover some $, unless you agreed to an as-is sale, and the bill of sale states that.

not true a seller can sell a car and the buyer smog. you just have to write out a written agreement

I have his information but the guy just told me it needs an ecu from an integra ls to pass smog? I live out in the boonies where I only need to smog it once for as long as I own the car.

I was just down in San Jose, that is where I bought the car from. PM me with more info about the motor because this is a pretty nice civic, I'm just ashamed that it is coming to this.

That has been challenged in court, where the seller has lost. IMO it is just not worth it.
