Recently my crx with ls vtec started to run very poorly at low rpms, smokes quite a bit (sometimes white and blue) and the exhaust and oil smell like strait gas. now i have a really loud engine knock. The engine was just rebuilt last summer with new rings, rod bearings, crank bearings, head gasket, ect. I was thinking my rings are goin bad, what do you think?

 

rings are really going bad. The smoke is from oil getting into the combustion chamber from bad rings and the gas is getting past the rings and into the crankcase. Also sounds like a major mixture problem too

 

I should have checked the compression. i will tomorrow and post the results

 

ok, i did two compression tests. first time:
#1 200
#2 205
#3 180
#4 205
then i tested again and got
#1 200
#2 205
#3 90
#4 200

All the plugs are black and reak of gas

 

why would #3 go from 180 to only 90?

 

are u doin the test right? throttle blocked open and about 5-7 cranks of the motor? and motor warm? and make sure gauge is tight

 

yea it was done right

 

something is goofy with that ring and sometimes it seal and sometimes it doens't. You need to re do the rings to get high compression

 

i did a wet compression test and it was still at 90. I guess either way i am due for a rebuild. This time i am using only oem parts
