i understand doing it right the first time but my car doesnt run as it is and i need a car to get around in the mean time and i dont need the vtec so do u think it would work with out hooking up the vtec. and if u had to choose a vtec controller which one would u choose?
a vtec controller , for a good one is about the same price as doing a obd1 conversion from rywire.com. dont get a vtec controller i had one and i hated it! it is only good for tweaking (in my opinion) after you have vtec working with the correct ecu!
the problem im having is that my car is an automatic and i dont have the time or money to do the auto---->manual swap and its hard as hell to find a good auto ecu that has vtec

Are you already MPFI? if you are, you can just use all your current hardware, you just won't have vtec.
