Default gas gauge?

just filled a full tank today, but for some strange reason my gauge still read empty after i filled it. after driving it for a while i started getting some bars, but after 5 miles of driving it hasn't even reached half tank, when it should've read full from the get go.

this normally happens when you don't shut the car off. did you leave it running when you filled up? if so try shutting it off next time.

People leave their car on when they fill up? I've never seen or heard of that. Isnt that dangerous? I'm sure it would throw a check engine light also if u left the car running. Maybe u mean the accessory position? Anyhow. To the OP, I have had the same problem. Sometimes the bars with show up immediately and other times it will take a few miles.

That does sound kinda weird. I've personally experienced it now showing as totally full but atleast 3/4+ tank until I drive around for a bit then it will gradually kick up to full. Maybe its the cold weather or something

the car must be completely off - key out of the ignition. I had the same problem on my MY02, took it to the dealership and they had a service bulletin on it and there was nothing wrong. There is a sort of delay in the system to make up for the movement of fuel in the tank so that the gauge doesn't move around a lot. Hope that helps.
