Today could have really sucked
well it almost happened. and it is my fault, but i almost ruined some old woman's day. i had just washed my car because it is like 71 degrees and shining outside. i was gonna wax it but wanted to get some of the water off first. so i took my car down the street going a little fast so i can get the wind to blow off the excess water. my blower is broken so i couldnt just go to the shed and dry it off. so anyways, im literally 5 houses away from mine. someone was parked in front of my house and was pulling off. i had left my brand new buffer outside so i figured someone ran up and grabbed it. btw, i live on a very busy street, and this was at 5 o'clock. so yea, i turn my head to look at the car and as i look back up........ about 15 feet in front of me, an old woman had decided she was going to turn down the side street with no turn signal on and ONE brake light. so i hit my brakes, grab my e'brake and realized immediately i wasnt going to stop on time so i jerked my wheel as hard as i could to get in the right lane of traffic. there was a huge conversion van right there. he saw that the woman had no clear identification that she was turning and slammed his brakes as well right before i jerked my wheel. how i didnt take off at least my drivers side mirror or flat out demolish the old lady's car i have no idea. i am a bit frazzled by the whole ordeal. hence the jagged time line. so yea, i started off wanting to make my RR SI beam, and almost took it to the junk yard. i talked to the guy in the van and apologized for what had happened and he was extremely understanding, so i didnt feel as bad since it wasnt just me not paying attention. either way, i would have felt absolutely horrible if i had taken out that old lady's car and in the processed destroyed mine. i came home and cleaned my car up again and cleaned the tires and now it is sitting in the carport area behind a fence where it shall remain for a few days. if im gonna destroy a car, i would much rather kill my hatch. it was just a crappy situation
and btw, i dont know if anyone has actually damaged an old person's car, but it is so much worse than hitting a young or middle aged person's car. my sister barely backed into an old woman's geo metro last year and scraped the side of it and when she talked to the woman turns out the insurance company had totalled it out and the money they gave was in no way shape or form enough for her to get another vehicle, and living on a fixed income the woman had no way of obtaining a new vehicle. my sister ended up giving the woman some assistance in getting another car. anyways, almost a horrible day but it ends with me sitting here and my car sitting in teh driveway all cleaned up

The only time I got into an accident with an older person I was rear ended. Stopped in a 4 lane road to turn left into a neighborhood, and a drunk colonel slammed into the back of my altima.
But regardless, glad you didn't wreck!

Well if she had a functioning car, or knew how to drive one, i would have felt bad for her. Some old folks just need to retire the license. Good to hear you made it out okay though.
yea its good to know nothing happenned...ive been is situations like that once i almost ran a boy who crossed the street while i was backing up and glanced to my gf (now wife) for a second.....phew! but even if he crossed recklessly, if i had my eyes on the road, could have avoided him with no so much hassle...

nice reflex. usually you see people on TV just slam on the brakes and wait for the inevitable to happen without turning to avoid.
i have developed that reflex and its saved my *** countless times. not im my car but my parents before i had gotten mine.

99% of the time, I'd say that the old person is better off no being able to drive. They are a hazard to others on the road and sometimes almost as bad as drunk drivers. They go 30mph on the 75mph highways in the far left lane, they make erratic maneuvers without signaling... the list goes on.
