I heard on TV something about a possible recall for 1992- 2004. Hondas and Acuras odometers. Something about they can be wrong by 4 miles per 100 racked onto the odo. Any input?

I am not sure why Honda decided to give in this time instead of fighting it.
The people who brought the suit latched onto a golden situation when Honda admitted that "of course" the odometers were off a little bit, and they always have been since day one.
The women who brought the suit got in trouble because of a lease issue where they had gone considerably over the lease terms (and I mean by scores of thousands of miles), and when they realised the odometer was something they could fight about, they saw a way out of the lease and a way to pocket a few score thousand to boot. Especially when Honda admitted right off the bat that "of course" the odometers were not accurate for legal purposes.
In the end, it will not mean that much to Honda because the general reliability record will not make it a losing proposition to extend everybody's warranty by a few thousand miles.
However, the precedent could cost less reliable manufacturers a lot more than it will ever cost Honda.

I watched a report on national news last night; the federal standard variance is 4% and all the hondas tested had less than that, average was about 3%, but the kicker was that the error was always in favor of the miles being run up faster, and that gives the advantage to the manufacturer.
But I agree that Honda should have fought the lawsuit; they are within federal standards.

My 2001 Saab has a similar issue, but only with the speedometer. Apparently in Europe there's big penalties against car companies for speedometers that read low. So they always read high, with enough comfortable margin for manufacturing tolerance. They don't want ANY of them to read even a little low.
However, the ODOMETER reads good on that car.
Police departments pay big bucks to get their speedometers individually calibrated. Normal mortals don't need that & don't want to pay for it.
