Default No knock sensor = no CEL

Ok, I'm not sure if this is right but my dad broke my knock sensor. So right now I'm running with out one. Now, shouldn't I have a CEL?

When I purchased my car it had a spun bearing but there was no CEL or does the knock sensor actually do anything? I'm thinking of just not running one because that is $50 for something it looks like I don't need. Anyone have any ideas?

If you have a P14 or P13 ECU it will throw a code if its flat out broken the only way it will not is if its chipped and knock is disabled

I have a P14. So should it be throwing a code since there is no sensor there? We just left the sensor out completely.

The ecu won't throw the code until u hold the rpms around 3-4k rpms for about 10 secs or while driving.
