Default speedo jumping then motor dies...

alright guys, ive had nothing but problems latelly with my rex...i just changed da alt belt today cus the old one wasnt charging the battery....now its good, the battery is charged.....i start driving the car to work n then my speedo starts jumping all over the place n then my car dies....i try to start it, n it does but the speedo starts jumping then it dies...then i tried starting it againg n it sounds like a backfire noise so i'm thinking the dizzy? so i walk over to work cus i was pretty close, come back to the car bout 2 hours later n it starts without a problem...drive it home without a problem....i took off the dizzy cap n the rotor n coil look fine n new cus i just change it 2 weeks ago....I dont trust my rex anymore though cus i'm afraid it might do the same thing at any randowm moment.....i also need to change my valve cover gasket cus i got a lil oil on the plugs n tube wires...what do u guys think could cause the car to do this???

Sounds like your distributor is fried.

those are all symptoms of a bad distributor.. if it isnt the distributor then i dont know what it is..theres mroe then a coil and cap and rotor that can go bad on one.

IGNITER!!!

it's a pretty expensive part from the dealership, (like $80 if i remember correctly, maybe more) so you might just want to get a new distributor anyway..... but i can almost guarantee that's your problem

No.

Bad main relay, the engine will crank all day long but no fuel, no fire. It normally only happens in hot weather, there's a crappy solder point in the relay that doesn't work in the heat after it's worn.

Clicking is normal, it's a relay.

could be the crank angle sensor, in the distributor, i never had any symptoms except for the crazy rpm's and it was the sensor
