HI, i need ur advice on buying an s2000
HI, I posted a form earlier didn't get any reply well one. If u can help me it would really help.
Im planning on buying a 2001 s2000 with 50000 miles trading in my 02 rsx-s.
just wanted to know how this car handels in snow cosidering its a 50 - 50 weight distribution. had a 240 sx s 13 which was terrible.
so if anyone of u have driven it in snow and would lemme know about ur experiences , it would really help.
secondly are there any other typical issues with this car that I might face? like roof leckage or anyithng like that.
also compared to the rsx . will modding it be expensive ? Im not talking about a turbo kit or anything, just a CAI, exhaust and headers ...
once again thank in advance for anyhelp

Umm, lets just say hold on to the wheel. In all honesty it's not too bad (depending on tires) but nothing compared to a fwd car. I had to go mad slow with just a light coating on the ground cause the rear end was twitching everywhere and i swear i could taste the leather cause i swear a couple times i sucked it up my a**. Now ice, just sucks but that's any car. Just chill on the speed and you should be straight as long as your not on r comp's.
Now, the '01's had the plastic window which from what i understand distorts, discolors and can crack in the cold. I personally looked for one with the glass window-'02 and up. The top latches/strikers sometimes squeak. Search around on here and s2ki.com.
Leakage, my '02 only seems to leak in the trunk a lil. Nothing big but if you have paper back there it's annoying.
As far as modding goes, there's always the ebay special stuff so in that respect no it's not more expensive but if you want items that actually work, the majority of them are more expensive but again that depends on the brand and who you get them from. example-aem intake $2-300 or k&n filter for $40-$50. There is ways around everything but quality comes into play on some items
Hope that helps.
Good luck!

honestly i would never buy an 00-01, i had an 02 and didnt really like it, the tranny wasnt as smooth, dont settle for less buy a newer one, i own an 04 now and i'm happy with it.
the car sucks in the snow. i have a hardtop, so i cant really comment on the roof leakage - but i cant really see it leaking unless it was damaged or neglected. i have a 02 and love, no issues what so ever beside it eating rear tires for lunch. as far as mods, it depends what you want to spend.
hell the car sucks at handling the rain let alone the snow... i dont see any snow personally but i can only imagine....holy lord. i wouldnt even want to drive it if it were snowing.

large piles of bullsh-t
the 00-01 has stiffer supension(spring rate, thicker rollbar) from the factory and imho if you don't care about accented tweeter and glass rear window i don't see why you should narrowing your selection.
if you are going for the hardtop then you don't even need to worry about the plastic rear.

you don't drive in the rain like do in dry road, the 5050 weight dis. is a prime expample of text book weight transfer in sports car, just treat it with care and respect and it's fine in the rain.
there's people driving it in the snow with the s as well, but DONT try to kill yourself with the stock s02 in the snow.
mods will be more expensive than your average honda, maintenace is slightly higher being more advance part equipped. built like a tank and drives like a dream, mine just rolled 100k this week
and it's pulling perfect compression and leakdown number

From: TRILLINOIS....WAY downtown, jerky.
Well, seeing as how the S13 has about 47/53 Weight distribution with the KA24, and about 49/51 or 50/50 with the SR20DET....you're not going to see much of a difference if you're considering the weight distribution factor. I, personally, wouldnt dream of driving my S in the snow.
consider this:
Winter tires: $400-500
+ think of all the damage the salt and crap are going to do to your car...and think about the damages that will have to be paid if you crash your S2000. The deductible on your insurance is probably about $500. Then you have to worry about your premium going up if it was your fault.
reliable EF Beater: $500-1000. no worries about anything bad happening to your S2000. You can store your S2000 in the winter, which saves you insurance $$.
