Default 8.50 and and slower roll cage; which way do you prefer...

Which way do you prefer (which way do you think is safer) to do the A-pillar bars? Also, is the crossbar that goes from rocker sill area to rocker seal area (from main hoop leg to main hoop leg), to which D-bars attach, still needed, or did NHRA do away with it (it is not in their rule book, but was it in there ever...)? Because according to this somewhat recent thread ( https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1629143 ) it is needed, but I've seen numerous pictures of other peoples cages, that were done recently, that did not have this cross bar. Your help is appreciated. Pictures are borrowed from other H-T members.

Choice A (A-pillar bars+cross bar):

Choice B (A-pillar bars+halo):

i did choice B. The bar between the rocker sills is not required. I consulted my NHRA tech a good while on the phone before i took it to him and he said he likes those bars but they are not technically required. I would consult the tech that is going to inspect your cage to make sure, its always easier that way.

I think I've seen more 25.5 spec cages with "choice A", and that makes me lean more towards that choice. If somebody has some technical info about how one way is better than the other, please let us know.

As far as crossbar for D-bars is concerned, I think I'll put that in anyway.

The pillar bars to the main hoop are one piece. You can't get more ridgid than that. When you start adding in multiple weld points you add a weaker spot to the cage as a whole.

even though with a halo bar you can get the pillar bars closer to the pillar I would still want the rigidity of the 1 piece pillar bars!

I feel the same way. I have the halo and it sits a litle low. But My car also has bend around the dash bars so if the car goes fast enough to require the right dash bars then I will cut the front section off and do it the way A is showing with the one piece pillar bars. So I vote A even though I have B

Joe what was your reasoning for hating the halo? was it due to fitment issues or what?

thats cause of poor fabrication and design behind your cage, if done right the halo can be super tight as seen in the pics of the crx.

I can vouch for what he is saying, i didn't expect my "pre bent kit" to fit as nicely as a custom made cage. But other than the front not being as high as I would like, It really isn't all that bad. I hope to have to change the front section of my cage once i get the car to the track and running quicker than my cage will work for as it is now.

Either way, with proper install i don't think either way would make that much of a difference. Personal preference of mine would be to do it again without the halo. Main reason being that I belive it would be easier to get to fit up tighter than with the halo. But what do I know I don't do this stuff everyday.
