1996 honda accord lx/idle problem
When I start my car, It idles erratically while the engine is cold . It jumps to 2000 rpm and then 1000rpm back and forth. Once it warms up, normaly after a couple of mins., It returns to normaloperating idle. I replaced the plugs, checked air filter, etc. Could this possibly be o2 sensor or what? Thanks in advance.
oh man this should have a sticky somewhere;
First, be sure the coolant is full and the block burped of air thru the 12mm bleed screw at the T-stat housing.
If that doesn't solve the problem the next thing is to adjust the FITV, on your car the valve lies horizontal under the throttle body intake.
Remove the cap of the valve[2 phillips head screws] under the cap you can see [with a mirror] a nylon 'splitscrew' with a cone sticking thru the middle of it.
The idea is to turn the splitscrew in so you hear no air bypassing at the point of temperature starting to show on the guage.
If this doesn't solve the problem go check the IAC. A quick check for IAC operation is to unplug it, after the engine is warm and idling, and the idle should drop 2-300 RPM
